Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Tuesday’s match.
Newcastle United kicking off against Spurs in the Premier League only five weeks after defeating them 2-0 at home in the League Cup.
United facing Spurs tonight at St James’ Park in an 8.15pm kick-off.
The Newcastle United players knowing how massive this would be if they can get a third Premier League win in a row, potentially rising as high as seventh.
With of course another Premier League home game to follow on Saturday against Burnley.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United now sixteen weeks into the season.
Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 1 December 2025:
“Tottenham boss Thomas Frank needs a result.
“He was so relaxed when he was at Brentford but now he just looks like a guy under pressure.
“Frank saying the supporters who booed Guglielmo Vicario after his mistake against Fulham “can’t be true Tottenham fans” underlines the friction he is feeling at the moment, but he does have a point about the effect that has.
“As a player who has been booed a lot over the years, I can tell you that it doesn’t have a positive impact on your performance. Being serious, though, I just don’t get it – it just creates negativity.
“The Spurs players will probably be relieved to be playing away after that, but Newcastle have found a bit of form in the past week so this is not an easy trip at all.
“Tottenham have already lost at St James’ Park this season in the Carabao Cup, and I am going for a repeat result, by the same scoreline.
“Prediction: Newcastle 2 Spurs 0”
My thoughts
So is the BBC Sport pundit on the money here?
I can’t really disagree with much, if anything, that Chris Sutton has said here.
As he says, United bet Spurs 2-0 in the Carabao Cup five weeks ago. Frank’s side went into that St James’ Park match on a run of only two wins in their last seven games in all competitions, whilst the NUFC match started a run of seven for Spurs that has seen five defeats and only one victory.
Tonight also sees Eddie Howe’s team going into the Spurs match on a run of six home wins in a row.
If the BBC Sport pundit proves correct and it ends up seven home victories in a row and a clean sheet tonight, I won’t be complaining.
