Barcelona are planning to enter the market for a new centre-back in the summer of 2026, having felt the absence of Inigo Martinez since his exit in the summer.
Furthermore, Andreas Christensen could also be on his way out, given that his contract expires at the end of the season and there are no plans for a renewal as things stand.
As such, a new centre-half is on the agenda for Deco & co., with several names already being identified as potential targets, one of whom happens to be Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.
The 25-year-old Englishman is set to leave the Premier League club as a free agent in the summer, with his contract expiring on 30 June, 2026. And Barça are among a host of top clubs vying to sign.
Bayern Munich open talks
However, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich have already made their first move to secure the signing of Guehi.
As per the report from the Sky Germany journalist, the Bavarian giants’ director, Max Eberl, has already met with the Crystal Palace star’s agent, Gordon Stipic, in recent days to discuss a possible transfer.
Bayern Munich are looking to shore up their defensive resources, especially with uncertainty lingering over Dayot Upamecano’s future, with his contract expiring in the summer.
As such, Guehi has emerged as an option for the Bundesliga champions, along with Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund – another player on Barcelona’s radar.
With Bayern now making their initial move for Guehi, the Blaugrana must need to act soon if they do intend to sign the England international next summer.
Apart from Bayern Munich, Barcelona will also face competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid and Premier League champions Liverpool in the race for the 25-year-old former Chelsea ace.
