Barcelona to prioritize reinforcement in crucial position next summer – report

Barcelona’s plans for next season are shaping up as the club shifts focus towards strengthening its squad.

While the search for a left winger and a centre-back has been well documented for months, there has been a significant development in recent weeks.

According to SPORT, the club, under the guidance of Deco and with the support of Hansi Flick, is now prioritising the acquisition of a right-back alongside the previously identified positions.

The new position is gaining significant interest

This new focus on the right-back position has gained momentum, especially after the German coach, who collaborates closely with the sporting director, made it clear that strengthening this area is crucial for the team’s future.

Interestingly, the right-back now takes precedence over the left-back role, which has lost some of its urgency in comparison.

At present, Barcelona are in the early stages of evaluating potential candidates. The club is gathering information and conducting internal discussions, but they have yet to reach out to agents or draw up a definitive list of targets.

The aim is to find a player who can immediately step into the starting lineup and elevate the team’s competitive level. They are not interested in players who require time to adapt or those who are still developing in their careers.

Exits would be very necessary

Any decisions regarding the signing of a right-back, or any other transfer, will largely depend on how the club handles its ‘exit operation’—the process of selling players.

Barcelona’s ability to comply with the 1:1 rule, which was established during this winter market, plays a key role in the financial flexibility required for future acquisitions.

The success of this strategy will depend on the revenue generated through player sales, which will ultimately influence the club’s ability to bring in new talent.
