Barcelona’s young forward, Lamine Yamal, is on the verge of another historic milestone in the UEFA Champions League.
According to Mundo Deportivo, if he takes the field today, he will make his 25th appearance in Europe’s top competition, becoming the youngest player ever to reach this mark at just 18 years and 100 days, surpassing Zaire Emery, who held the record at 19 years and 32 days.
In his 24 appearances in the competition, Yamal has helped Barcelona to 14 victories, 7 defeats, and 3 draws, contributing five goals and six assists.
Despite his age, he has already delivered standout performances against some of Europe’s elite sides, including Bayern Munich, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan.
Breaking records from the start
Yamal’s rise in the Champions League has been remarkable. At just 16 years and 83 days, he became the youngest player ever to start a game in the competition.
Shortly after, he became the youngest to play in a knockout stage match against Napoli at 16 years and 223 days.
The records kept coming. At 16 years and 272 days, he featured in a Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain, and before turning 17, he had already made 10 appearances at 16 years and 278 days.
At 17 years and 241 days, he became the youngest player to score and assist in the same European match against Benfica.
Then, at 17 years and 270 days, he reached 20 games in the competition, which is a feat no player had achieved at such a young age.
Now, with his 25th appearance imminent, Yamal is stepping into a new phase of his career. He no longer needs to prove his place in the Champions League.
Instead, he is ready to lead Barcelona in decisive moments, from quarterfinals to semifinals, and potentially to the final itself.
