Marc Casado has had a curious season at Barcelona. After resisting offers from various clubs across Europe last summer, the midfielder decided to stay and fight for his place.
But as we approach the final few months of the season, Casado has featured in just over 1,100 minutes in all competitions.
Although he has featured in 16 league matches, only eight of them have been starts. This has led to question marks over his long-term future at the club.
Barcelona are happy with Casado but there’s a caveat
According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are satisfied with Casado’s performances and commitment to the team.
However, the club understand that the La Masia product has been a victim of intense competition in midfield.
Casado, after all, is having to compete with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Eric Garcia and now Marc Bernal for a place in the starting eleven. With Gavi also set to return soon, his importance in the team could dwindle further.
Therefore, Barcelona have not ruled out a potential sale of Casado in the coming summer, especially if the club receive an offer worth considering.
The report adds that Casado’s priority is to stay at Barcelona and prove himself. But if the situation doesn’t improve, even he might start considering alternatives.
The youngster has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in the past. But recent reports have indicated that even Saudi Arabia could be a viable option for the midfielder.
For now, Casado remains focused on Barcelona, at least until the end of the season. But the coming months could be integral as the club, as well as the player, look to make a final decision.
