Barcelona playmaker misses training due to overload, a doubt for Gamper Trophy match

As Barcelona gear up for their final pre-season fixture against Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 10, concerns are beginning to surface over player availability, most notably that of Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski.

According to a report from SPORT, Dani Olmo did not take part in the group training session due to muscle overload.

Instead, the Spanish international trained individually, raising doubts about whether he will be fit in time for the Gamper match.

Barcelona remain cautious, and given manager Hansi Flick’s firm stance on player fitness, Olmo will only play if there is no risk of worsening his condition.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski has already been ruled out of the upcoming clash. The striker will miss the final friendly before the competitive season begins.

In a statement released by the club, Barça confirmed: “His evolution will determine his availability,” suggesting that his status for the season opener is still uncertain.

With Lewandowski out and Olmo doubtful, and Ferran Torres also struggling with fitness issues, the door opens for other players to step up.

All signs currently point to Marcus Rashford taking the central role in attack for Barcelona against the Serie A outfit.

On the wings, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are expected to start, offering pace and width. In the attacking midfield role, Fermin Lopez looks set to be given another opportunity to impress, having enjoyed a strong pre-season campaign so far.

This match will not only be a test of depth but also an opportunity for Flick to assess his tactical flexibility just before the La Liga season kicks off.

While injuries are a setback, they may also allow others to stake their claim ahead of a busy campaign.
