As has already been established, Barcelona are gunning for the signing of a new left-winger and a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is seen as the main target for the attacking position while Barça have their sights on Espanyol hero Joan Garcia for the goalkeeping position.
There are several impediments for the Catalans in pursuit of the Spanish shot-stopper though, with interest coming from the Premier League as well as bitter rivals Real Madrid.
Furthermore, the rivalry between Barcelona and Espanyol also complicates matters as Garcia might have concerns about alienating the fanbase of his boyhood club.
Barcelona optimistic
However, according to Laia Tudel on Catalunya Radio, Barcelona are still waiting for a response from Joan Garcia and are optimistic about their chances of signing the 24-year-old.
As mentioned above, there are concerns about the potential social impact of his transfer from Espanyol to Barcelona.
However, the Spanish ace has so far not ruled out a transfer to the La Liga champions and has been coy and measured in his response.
Barça, for their part, have already tabled a contract offer for Garcia and are making all possible efforts to convince him, which has put them in the lead.
As such, there is optimism within the club that the Espanyol star will choose them.
Decision this weekend or next week
Meanwhile, according to Santi Ovalle on Que T’hi Jugues, Garcia is yet to make a final decision on his next club.
However, it is expected that a decision will not take long with the matter likely to be sorted out either this weekend or next week at the earliest.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper had a meeting with his agents earlier this week to discuss and assess all options on the table.
A final decision on his next move is just around the corner and Barcelona are optimistic about their chances.
