Barcelona manager dealing with two major concerns that are affecting his squad selection

Barcelona’s unbeaten start to the La Liga season has not completely eased the concerns of Hansi Flick. 

This is because, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, the manager is yet to settle on a fixed starting XI, and the 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano has exposed gaps that must be addressed if Barça are to challenge for the title.

While the result only leaves them two points behind leaders Real Madrid, Flick is more worried about the lack of rhythm on the pitch than the table itself.

What’s the issue?

The sudden departure of Inigo Martinez to Al-Nassr has hit the coach harder than expected. Flick had counted on him as a defensive leader and had not planned for his exit. 

Adding to the complications, Andreas Christensen, who was initially expected to leave, ended up staying, creating an imbalance in Flick’s defensive plans. 

Club sources have confirmed that the option of signing another centre-back or even a right-back was discussed, but it did not materialise.

As a result, Flick is still missing the commanding presence that Inigo once provided.

Midfield and attack also unsettled

In midfield, Flick has relied on Frenkie de Jong and Pedri to provide creativity. Yet, against Rayo, the duo struggled to impose themselves, and Barcelona found it hard to create clear chances.

The attack raises just as many questions. The wings are settled with Raphinha trusted on the left and Lamine Yamal shining on the right. 

But the central roles remain uncertain, as Flick has tested different attacking midfielders, rotating between Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, and Dani Olmo. 

Up front, Ferran Torres has been preferred due to his goal-scoring form, while Lewandowski, recovering from injury, has struggled. Still, the lack of goals could open the door for the Polish striker’s return.

For now, Flick continues to juggle options, searching for the balance that can turn Barcelona’s unbeaten run into a title-winning campaign.
