Barcelona make progress in pursuit of 18-year-old attacking prodigy amid widespread interest

The January window saw FC Barcelona make three youth signings in the form of Juwensley Onsten, Hamza Abdelkarim, and Patricio Pacifico, all of whom will be joining the Barça Atletic squad.

Moreover, the Catalans have more signings in the pipeline, with Norwich City wonderkid Ajay Tavares expected to arrive shortly, and defensive prospect Ruud Nijstad also on his way from FC Twente.

As already reported, Club Brugge youngster Jesse Bisiwu is also on the radar and work is being done to sign the 18-year-old winger.

Barcelona take concrete steps for Bisiwu

Now, providing an update on the club’s pursuit of Bisiwu, SPORT reports that Barcelona’s idea is to make progress over the coming months and leave the operation well advanced in order to complete it in June.

Nothing has been signed, but important steps have already been taken.

Barcelona director Deco and head of scouting Joao Amaral travelled to Belgium last week to hold a meeting with the player’s representatives.

Sources close to the player confirm that the meeting took place and state that, alongside the Catalans, several major European clubs are closely monitoring his progress and are seriously considering the possibility of signing him.

Meanwhile, Bisiwu’s team, Club Brugge, acknowledge that they are aware of Barcelona’s interest, although they stress that at no point have Deco or Amaral approached them directly to communicate a formal intention to sign the player.

The Belgian club’s position is clear. They will do everything possible to renew the teenager’s contract and, in the event of a future sale, they will not make matters easy.

Club Brugge have been working for some time on an attractive proposal for Bisiwu, fully aware of his potential. Although a renewal has not been ruled out, he has tempting offers that would allow him to continue developing outside the club.

As per the report, Bisiwu gives priority to the Barcelona project, attracted by the possibility of growing within a structure that places a strong emphasis on young talent.

With groundwork being laid for the deal, the Blaugrana hope to make further progress in the coming weeks so as to secure the teenage winger’s services come summer.
