As has been well established by now, FC Barcelona intend to reinforce the right-back position in the upcoming summer transfer window.
While Jules Kounde has excelled as the first choice in the position, manager Hansi Flick does not appear to have been fully convinced by Hector Fort as his backup.
As such, the Blaugrana are looking for a new right-back in the summer with Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen seen among those could be an ideal fit.
Marc Pubill also on Barcelona’s radar
Now, Fichajes reports that Barcelona have also set their sights on UD Almeria youngster Marc Pubill as a potential target for the right-back slot.
Pubill, who developed at Levante’s academy, has made a name for himself with his strength, attacking instincts, and tactical discipline since joining Almeria in 2023.
The 21-year-old Spaniard impressed last season in La Liga even as Almeria ended up getting relegated and has continued to make positive strides back in the Spanish second division.
Pubill has managed one goal and five assists from 36 games in all competitions and his consistent performances have not gone unnoticed.
Barcelona had held an interest in Pubill last summer as well but the move fell through due to Financial Fair Play restrictions. Now, though, it appears that the Catalans are set to revive their pursuit of the 2024 Olympics gold medalist.
A dynamic defender with stamina and good ball control, Pubill also has the potential to grow within Barcelona’s tactical system.
Financially, as well, he represents a smart opportunity for the Blaugrana – affordable, young, and already experienced in professional football.
While Barcelona have not yet made an official bid, sources close to the player suggest he is open to the move should the Catalans come calling.
