Ferran Torres had a mixed outing when Barcelona took on Elche last night. He scored the team’s second goal against Eder Sarabia’s men, but struggled to convert at least four other chances during his time on the field.
On a larger level, however, Torres has been good for Barcelona this campaign and has given Hansi Flick enough reason to see him as a starting No. 9.
He may have his off days and rued chances, but he has stepped up several times when the team has needed him and is their top scorer in the league.
Set to be rewarded
As relayed in a recent update by SPORT, the former Valencia star’s good performances make his renewal an important topic for Deco and Co.
His current contract with Barcelona runs until June 2027, and he will enter the final year of his deal come June. Given his performances, age, and quality, the Catalans are committed to extending his deal.
Torres, for his part, also thinks only of Barcelona and there is thus a favourable environment to reach an agreement. No obstacles are expected on that front once the two parties begin negotiating seriously.
Since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in 2022, the player has not had it easy to break into the team as a regular starter and was primarily utilised as a super substitute even up until last season.
It is only in Hansi Flick’s second season that he has taken off as a bona fide starter, and he has now scored a total of 60 goals for Barcelona over the years.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has scored twelve goals in La Liga and also has an assist to his name. He has also scored twice in the UEFA Champions League, once in the Copa del Rey, and once in the Spanish Super Cup.
