FC Barcelona’s 3-0 win over RCD Mallorca earlier today once again brought to the fore the quality and the talent that comes through the club’s La Masia youth ranks.
Lamine Yamal was one of the goalscorers on the day, while fellow academy graduate Marc Bernal scored his first-ever goal for the senior team, making it a memorable evening.
On top of that, the game turned out to be a special one for young Tommy Marques as he finally made his first-team debut for Barcelona, after having been training with the senior team for months.
Tommy Marques delighted
Indeed, the 19-year-old got his maiden appearance for Barça when he came on as a substitute for Fermin Lopez in the 84th minute, with the game already in the bag.
Following the match, Marques spoke to the media in the mixed zone and could not hide his happiness after finally having gotten his big moment.
“It’s indescribable, what I’m feeling is incredible. I was talking about it with my teammates, it’s spectacular. It’s a dream come true,” he commented.
Reflecting on how the debut came about, the teenage academy ace added: “It’s hard to get on the pitch because the score has to be comfortable. When they scored the third,
Flick called me over, and I didn’t even have time to think. My day has arrived.”

When asked about the advice that manager Hansi Flick passed on to him leading up to the moment, Marques revealed what the manager told him: “Enjoy it, live in the moment, and do what you have to do.”
The occasion was made even sweeter by the fact that he made his first-team bow at the Spotify Camp Nou.
“It’s incredible because you watch it from home from a young age, you go to the games… It’s a big shock, it’s spectacular. I’ve gone through many stages to get here. I’m very proud of what it means,” he said.
Discussing his journey up until this point, the teenager remarked: “You have to be ambitious. It’s time to keep working. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and for all these weeks I’ve spent with them.
“Every day with them is spectacular. Everyone I’ve met has congratulated me. It’s a dream to be congratulated by your idols.”
Concluding, Marques said: “It’s time to celebrate with family and friends,” but without overdoing it as “I’m playing with my team [Barça Atletic] tomorrow.”
