Barcelona are once again keeping an eye on the free-agent pool for the summer transfer window, with a move for Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen already in the works.
Now, the Blaugrana seem to have identified another potential target who could arrive for free in the summer, when his contract with his current club expires.
Barcelona, Atletico Madrid discuss Thomas Partey signing
Indeed, according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have both held talks about signing Thomas Partey in the summer when his contract at Arsenal expires.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, with his contract running out on June 30, 2025.
There have been talks of interest from Saudi Arabia, Bundesliga and Serie A, but a return to Spain also appears to be on the table for Partey, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid monitoring his situation.
Even though signing a new midfielder is not seen as a priority at the Catalan club, bringing in a player of Partey’s pedigree and experience for free seems to be an appealing prospect.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian’s former club Atletico Madrid are also interested in taking him back to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
Arsenal, for their part, appreciate Partey but are unlikely to offer him a new contract which is on the same level as his current £200,000-a-week deal.
So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the midfielder and whether a return to Spain materialises amid interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
