Striker Serhou Guirassy has been linked with Chelsea quite a bit in recent seasons.
I do know that he is a name that has interested our recruitment team recently. They’ve always considered him as a striker option to go for but they’ve never taken it past the interested stage. Will it stay that way?
Well, apparently Guirassy has a release clause that comes in to play in the summer of 2026, but not anyone can trigger it.
According to Sky in Germany, Guirassy is ‘one to watch’ for the summer, as he could leave Borussia Dortmund.
He is understood to have a release clause around €50m that applies to 7 top clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
That fee equates to around £44m – so you’d automatically expect Chelsea to not even look at it. If the fee was much cheaper, then maybe they would be interested. But for a 29-year-old, there would be no re-sale value there if Chelsea signed him, so I’d say this one is dead in the water already.
Guirassy is a goal-scorer though; he’s bagged 172 career goals 378 senior appearances, and he’s scored 9 goals in 17 games for Dortmund this season, after scoring 38 in 50 appearances for them last season.
But if Chelsea really wanted him, they should have and could have got him in the summer of 2024 for around £17m, which was his release clause then.
So no, this one will not happen, at least not for that quoted price.
