Welcome back to The Grid. The new trailer for the long-awaited sci-fi action sequel, Tron: Ares, has now been unveiled by Disney, with the positively pulsating footage revealing more of what’s to come as the digital world seeps into the real one. And all with Academy Award winner and Morbius star Jared Leto at its center. You can check out the new trailer for Tron: Ares below.
Directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Young Woman and the Sea) from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow (Daredevil: Born Again) and Jack Thorne (Adolescence), Tron: Ares stars Oscar winner Jared Leto (Morbius, Dallas Buyers Club) as the titular Ares, with the rest of the cast consisting of Greta Lee (Past Lives), Evan Peters (X-Men: Apocalypse), Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), Hasan Minhaj (The Daily Show), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Arturo Castro (Broad City), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Crown), Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets), and original star Jeff Bridges.

‘Tron’ Star Teases His Future in Franchise, Says He’s Proud “Proud” of ‘Ares’ Team
Garrett Hedlund spoke to MovieWeb amid the release of his new film ‘Barron’s Cove’ and weighed in on Disney’s longtime sci-fi franchise.
Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Tron: Ares is the latest installment in the iconic science fiction franchise which first began way back in 1982 and was continued with 2010’s Tron: Legacy. Tron: Ares is due to land in theaters on October 10, 2025, and will feature a gritty and “industrial” score by Nine Inch Nails. You can check out the official synopsis below.
“Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”
‘Tron’ Fans Ask Why It Had to Be Jared Leto
Though he may have an Oscar to his name, fans cannot help but wonder why Jared Leto was chosen to lead Tron into its next era. The actor is not only currently drowning in allegations of sexual misconduct – allegations which could affect his involvement in promoting Tron: Ares – his last few movies have been major failures, with both The Haunted Mansion and the Marvel outing Morbius bombing with both critics and at the box office. In fact, the latter movie managed to fail so hard it bombed twice.
“Seeing Jodie Turner-Smith looking like a badass mofo in that Tron outfit just makes me wish she were the main character instead of goddamn Leto,” said one fan on X/Twitter, with another adding, “I’ve literally been asking for Tron 3 for more than a decade, but making Jared Leto the protagonist is almost as if he was created in a lab to get me to suddenly stop caring about the thing I’ve always wanted.”
However, despite the opposition to Jared Leto leading the movie, fans will hopefully be able to push that towards the back of their minds thanks to the soundtrack from Grammy-award-winning rock band Nine Inch Nails, who have composed the score for Tron: Ares. The band has now dropped the soundtrack album’s first single and the first official music from the band in five years, “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” which is featured in the new trailer and teases the gloriously throbbing beats that will permeate through the action. “Tron: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack),” featuring all original music by Nine Inch Nails, will be released on September 19 via Interscope Records.
