Apple TV’s New Revenge Thriller Series ‘The Hunt’ Gets Release Date & Trailer

A new Apple TV revenge thriller has finally been given a release date and trailer after being suddenly pulled amid controversy behind the scenes. The series, titled The Hunt, stars Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent and finds two hunting groups at odds and targeting each other as paranoia sets in and vengeance takes hold.

The Hunt was pulled from its original release of December 25 after reports and accusations emerged that the French-language drama series may have been plagiarized. Now, three months later, original studio Gaumont has rectified the situation, with The Hunt (known as Traqués in its native French) undergoing a credits change following allegations that The Hunt shares clear similarities with the 1973 novel “Shoot” by author Douglas Fairbairn, who passed away in 1997.

Any information about The Hunt was subsequently removed from the Apple TV site, but has now been restored alongside a release date of March 4, 2026, and revised credits which read, “a series by Anger based on the novel Shoot by Douglas Fairbairn, which was first adapted into a feature film of the same name, directed by Harvey Hart from a screenplay by Richard Berg.” You can read the statement from Gaumont below:

Originally scheduled for December 2025, The Hunt‘s release was postponed after it was identified in November 2025 that the project, presented as an original work, was based on an existing work, Douglas Fairbairn’s Shoot.

As soon as this information came to its attention, Gaumont, the series’ producer, immediately took the necessary steps to identify the rights holders, and obtain the required authorizations.

Respect for works and authors’ rights is a fundamental principle for Gaumont, which can only be exercised with the trust and transparency of creative artists.

What Is ‘The Hunt’ All About?

“The most dangerous enemy is the one you can’t see,” reads the tagline for The Hunt, which stars Damien Bonnard, Manuel Guillot, Cédric Appietto, Frédéric Maranber, Angélyna Mignot, Paul Beaurepaire, Yann Goven, Sarah Pachoud and Patrick de Vallette alongside Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent. Directed by Cédric Anger and Guillaume Renusson, The Hunt promises to be an intense tale of isolation and paranoia as danger ramps up as a hunting group is set on a path of revenge. And all without knowing why. You can check out the official synopsis for The Hunt below…

Franck (Magimel) and his longtime friends enjoy spending their weekends hunting together, but one Sunday, they come across another group of hunters who start targeting them without explanation. When one of their party is shot, Franck’s friends strike back, sending an attacker to the ground. Barely managing to escape, the four friends keep the event a secret. Franck tries to go back to his life as usual alongside his wife Krystel (Laurent), but in the next few days, he starts to feel like he and his friends are being watched, or worse, tracked by hunters who are now hell-bent on revenge.

The Hunt is not the first series Apple has suddenly pulled the rug out from under, with Jessica Chastain’s crime thriller The Savant having been left in limbo after certain story elements were deemed too similar to the real-life killing of the right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. Thankfully, the issues surrounding The Hunt have now been resolved, with the series due to debut on the streamer on March 4, with episodes following weekly until April 1.
