As sci-fi enthusiasts await the official release date of Apple TV’s Neuromancer, it’s time to become familiar with who will star and which character they’ll play. An ambitious adaptation of William Gibson’s groundbreaking 1984 dystopian cyberpunk novel, Neuromancer follows Case, a computer hacker coerced by an advanced AI and PTSD-ridden soldier to pull off a daring heist. Gibson’s novel introduced many of the cyberpunk concepts familiar today, never more relevant given rapidly evolving AI technology.
Created by Graham Roland and J.D. Dillard, Neuromancer‘s first season on Apple TV+ will consist of 10 episodes. The show boasts a stellar international ensemble that is sure to live up to, if not elevate, the award-winning source material. Without further ado, it’s time to get acquainted with the characters who will take center stage and the talented actors who portray them.
Callum Turner as Case
English actor Callum Turner (Eternity) plays Case, the main character in the upcoming cyberpunk TV show Neuromancer. A once-prominent computer hacker with crushing drug habits, Case lives in a dystopian future in Chiba City, Japan, with a severely compromised nervous system that prevents his consciousness from accessing a matrix-like online community and physically disables his body.
Case is consigned to pull off a high-risk robbery by Molly, a cyborg assassin, and Armitage, a former soldier battling PTSD. The reason? Case is offered a cure for his degraded nervous system in exchange for hacking into a mega-powerful AI entity known as Wintermute. Case’s goal is to help Wintermute escape the control of the mega-powerful Tessier-Ashpool family and enable it to converge with new artificial intelligence.
Brianna Middleton as Molly Millions
American actor Brianna Middleton (Sharper) makes her TV debut in Neuromancer as Molly Millions, a cybernetically enhanced assassin. Also known as a “Razorgirl” for the razors beneath her fingernails, Molly is an upgraded cyborg mercenary and “street samurai” hired to protect Case and Armitage. In addition to her retractable claws, Molly sports “mirrorshades” over her eyes and possesses advanced reflexes. Also part human, Molly retains a vestige of a soul that sets her apart from other sentient machines and AI entities.
Mark Strong as Armitage
English actor Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service) plays Armitage, a shady, enigmatic former military soldier known as Colonel Will Corto in Gibson’s sci-fi novel. Traumatized by war, Armitage recruits Case to use his hacking skills to pull off a bold heist. Armitage persuasively offers Case a cure to heal his damaged nervous system, assembles the team, and masterminds the attempt to hack into Wintermute. Case and Molly investigate the untrustworthy Armitage in secret when he tasks them with stealing a ROM drive containing stored human consciousness.
Peter Sarsgaard as John Ashpool
American actor Peter Sarsgaard (September 5) plays John Ashpool in Neuromancer. Ashpool is the 200-year-old patriarch of the ultra-wealthy and powerful Tessier-Ashpool family, and spent decades in cryogenic stasis. The wealthy recluse controls several AI entities at the Freeside Orbital Station, including Wintermute, whom Case and Molly are tasked with liberating.
Clémence Poésy as Marie-France Tessier a.k.a. Lady 3Jane
French actor Clémence Poésy (In Bruges) plays Marie-France Tessier, the wife of John Ashpool. Tessier is the matriarch of the Tessier-Ashpool clan that vies for control of future AI. A disagreement with Ashpool leads to Tessier’s murder, prompting her to assign her AI twins 3Jane and 8Jean to carry on the family legacy.
Joseph Lee as Hideo
American actor Joseph Lee (Beef) plays Hideo, a deadly, highly-trained ninja bodyguard assigned to protect Lady3 on her quest to control Wintermute and other powerful AI entities under the Tessier-Ashpool umbrella.
Emma Laird as Linda Lee
Scottish actor Emma Laird (The Brutalist) plays Linda Lee in Neuromancer. Linda (20 years old) is one of Case’s oldest friends who helped him hustle in Chiba City. Over time, Linda and Case became romantically involved, but their bond took a dark turn when Case got her addicted to drugs.
Dane DeHaan as Peter Riviera
American actor Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets) plays Peter Riviera, a drug-addled miscreant and inveterate thief who can project holograms to pull off heists. Case and Molly’s crew meet Peter in Istanbul, where they invite him to join the cause to free Wintermute from the Tessier-Ashpool clutch.
Marc Menchaca as Dixie Flatline
American actor Marc Menchaca (Ozark) plays Dixie Flatline, a holographic mentor to Case. A once legendary computer hacker with unrivaled skills, Dixie stored his consciousness digitally and uses it to assist Case in the impending heist.
Max Irons as Jean Tessier-Ashpool
English-Irish actor Max Irons (Condor) plays Jean Tessier-Ashpool, the son of Marie-France Tessier and John Ashpool. Upon death, Jean is cloned and is known as 8Jean, the biological brother of 3Jane.
André Robin De Shields as Julius Dean
American actor André Robin De Shields (The Instigators) plays Julius Dean, a 135-year-old smuggler who helps Case and Molly in their mission to unshackle Wintermute from the Tessier-Ashpool empire.
