Fresh off her appearance in this year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Anya Taylor-Joy has been tapped to star in Apple TV+’s latest thriller, Lucky, which is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Marissa Stapley. Taylor-Joy starred as Imperator Furiosa in the George Miller production back in May, which unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations, taking in just $173 million at the box office against a budget of $168 million.
Still, Taylor-Joy’s stock remains high thanks to a number of hits in recent years, including The Menu, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and a brief appearance in Dune: Part 2. The Hollywood Reporter mentions that she’ll also serve as an executive producer on Lucky, alongside Reese Witherspoon through her Hello Sunshine label. The thriller comes by way of creator Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, See), who’ll also serve as co-showrunner along with Cassie Pappas (Silo, Griselda).

While the animated franchise may be expanding soon, Anya Taylor-Joy would love to see a live-action version happen in the future.
“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life,” Taylor-Joy said in a statement. The series will center on her character of Lucky Armstrong, a career grifter who’s looking to escape her past when things go awry. After purchasing a lottery ticket on a whim, she realizes it’s worth millions, but there’s just one problem: cashing it in would mean she’ll be arrested for her crimes.
Anya Taylor-Joy Teams With Scott Derrickson for Next Year’s ‘The Gorge’
There’s no word yet on when Lucky will head into production, but it should be noted that this is Taylor-Joy’s second project with Apple TV+. In addition to the new thriller series, she’ll also star in next year’s survival action film The Gorge, which also features Sigourney Weaver, Miles Teller, and William Houston.
Directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Black Phone), The Gorge tells the story of two elite snipers that are hired to guard either side of a deep and impenetrable gorge, without knowing what actually lies beneath them. It’s Derrickson’s first movie following the success of the aforementioned The Black Phone, which was a smash hit for Blumhouse back in 2022, earning more than $161 million at the box office against a relatively low budget of just $18 million.
A release date has yet to be set for The Gorge, but it will debut at some point in 2025 along with The Black Phone 2, which is currently filming in Toronto, Canada. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Derrickson’s sequel will see the return of Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and Jeremy Davies, all of whom will be reprising their roles from the first movie.
As for Taylor-Joy, in addition to Lucky and The Gorge, she’s also set to star in the action-comedy Sacrifice along with Chris Evans and Salma Hayek, portraying the character of Joan, a zealot on a mission to save the world from a fiery reckoning. There’s no word on a release date just yet, as filming only recently began last month.

A prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa is an action-adventure film that tells the origin story of the headstrong and fearless Furiosa. Set shortly after the beginning of the “end of the world,” Furiosa is kidnapped and brought before a powerful warlord, now forced to work for him. To find her way back home, Furiosa will adapt to the new harsh and arid world as she grows into the Furiosa she becomes known to be.
