Following this year’s release of the Adam Sandler sequel, Happy Gilmore 2, which reunited fans with one of the actor and comedian’s best characters, another long-awaited follow-up to one of Sandler’s best-loved franchises is now happening. And we now have our first plot details and a filming update.
We’ve been waiting for 12 years now, but it’s (seemingly) official; Grown Ups 3 is happening. The first plot details and filming schedule have now been revealed via Production List, with the comedy sequel finding Sandler and the rest of the gang in another state of arrested development after finding themselves in charge of their childhood summer camp.
While unconfirmed at present, Sandler is expected to be joined once again by Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, with filming set to begin in Vancouver, Canada in February 2026. So, while it’s now been more than a decade, it shouldn’t be too much longer before we see the childhood friends back together again and embarking on another adventure. You can check out the first plot details for Grown Ups 3 below…
“When a surprise inheritance lands Lenny, Eric, Kurt, Marcus, and Rob control of their childhood summer camp, they reunite for one last hurrah.”
Fans Have Been Waiting 12 Years for ‘Grown Ups 3’
News that Grown Ups 3 is finally happening was first sparked by Kevin James back in July, who revealed that talks had been happening…but he had to keep things close to his chest. “I think there have been. And I think, yeah, I think you can keep hope alive. I can say that,” he revealed. “I would keep a lot of hope alive. And I think it’s happening—something’s happening. I can say that.”
Released back in 2010, the first Grown Ups follows Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Chris Rock as three friends who, after the death of their childhood basketball coach, decide to reunite at the site of a championship celebration years earlier. Despite not having wives and children, they quickly discover “why age does not, necessarily, equal maturity.” A sequel, Grown Ups 2, was released in 2013, and finds Sandler’s character moving back to his hometown to be closer to his buddies. But his return brings with it “old bullies, new bullies, party crashers and more,” as per the movie’s synopsis.
Both Grown Ups movies were savagely panned by critics, with the first outing landing a score of just 10% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Grown Ups 2 suffering an even worse reaction and landing a score of just 8% on the review aggregator site. The comedy outings have become firm favorites with audiences, though, with many holding out hope that we would see the gang take to the big screen again after all these years.
While there is sure to be some concern among audiences due to the length of time that’s passed between the sequel and the upcoming threequel, Sandler’s latest long-awaited follow-up, Happy Gilmore 2, fared far better than anyone expected (and far better than either of the Grown Ups movies) scoring 62% and 65% from critics and audiences, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes.
