Anne Rice’s The Talamasca Future After Season 1 Addressed By Immortal Universe Showrunners

Anne Rice’s The Talamasca Future After Season 1 Addressed By Immortal Universe Showrunners

Talamasca: The Secret Order showrunners Mark Lafferty and John Lee Hancock explain the future of the Immortal Universe show after season 1. Pulling inspiration from Anne Rice’s shared universe of books, the upcoming Talamasca series follows a new recruit, Guy Anatole, who becomes embroiled in the world of the supernatural as he begins observing vampires, witches, and demons for them.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Ash Crossan, Lafferty and Hancock revealed that Talamasca: The Secret Order is planned to evolve beyond just one season. The pair explained how, because of the size and scope of the story, there are plans for it to continue beyond season 1. Check out what the showrunners had to say below:

Ash Crossan: Any final thoughts before I let you go to the more boring interviews?

Mark Lafferty: I think this show is just a thrill ride. I think people are going to be really excited for it. As Bill said, it’s got incredible, grounded characters, but from the first episode to the last, it moves, and it’s a lot of fun.

Ash Crossan: Is there an overall plan or is it limited?

Mark Lafferty: No, it’ll be continuing.

Ash Crossan: A hundred seasons and a movie.

Mark Lafferty: A hundred seasons in a movie. Perfect. From your lips.

John Lee Hancock: And everything I’ve done in my career, it’s so exciting to have something that people really haven’t seen yet, and to be able to share it with them, and to have that interaction over episodes as opposed to — I have a movie career, so it’s mostly, there’s the movie, it’s a beginning, middle and end, and you talk about it. This is something that’s an ongoing discussion, and I can’t wait to share this with everybody and to talk about it.

What Lafferty & Hancock’s Statements Mean For The Talamasca Series

The Show Is Another Anchor In The Immortal Universe

Talamasca: The Secret Order will be the third show in the Immortal Universe on AMC. At present, Interview with the Vampire season 3 is another upcoming project, as is Mayfair Witches season 3. However, unlike both of those shows, which are based on Rice’s novels, the Talamasca series features a completely original story. Yet it’ll pull elements from the books.

The trailer for the show has already revealed Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy will be returning, his first appearance since the end of Interview with the Vampire season 2. It implies the show will have some core ties to both series, with a storyline that could be mentioned in either of the returning, established shows depending on what transpires.

Since Lafferty and Hancock plan for the series to last beyond season 1, the upcoming episodes are likely going to be a glimpse into the larger, overarching plans in place. With the original series having a unique storyline, it can establish elements of the Talamasca from the books while still utilizing its own ideas to craft a long-running narrative.

Our Take On The Talamasca Show Lasting For Multiple Seasons

It’s Unsurprising Given The Expansive Nature Of The Shared Universe

With how much potential the Immortal Universe has in expanding, it’s not surprising its Talamasca-focused series could run for multiple seasons. Unlike the other two shows, its core story doesn’t need to be relegated to one type of supernatural entity. Instead, it can expand the world in a broader way while offering insight into the mysterious organization.

While Lafferty and Hancock didn’t reveal exactly what plans they have, it sounds like Talamasca: The Secret Order is going to be an important piece in the larger narrative surrounding the shared universe. As the series evolves and develops, more about its purpose in the larger world and its deeper connections to the other shows will likely be revealed.
