Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Richards, Thompson and more

Two months since their last Premier League victory, Crystal Palace are back on the winning trail.

Chris Richards logged a strong 90 minutes on Sunday as Oliver Glasner’s men defeated rivals Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 at the Amex Stadium. The result snapped the Eagles’ 12-match winless run across all competitions and proved to be their first league victory since December 7.

Ismailia Sarr’s second-half goal was all Crystal Palace needed to claim a second-straight road win over the Seagulls in league play.

Richards won five duels, made seven clearances, and completed two tackles as Crystal Palace registered their first clean sheet since January 7. The U.S. men’s national team defender made his 21st league appearance of the season.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround this week as Burnley visits Selhurst Park on Wednesday.

In England, Alyssa Thompson scored her seventh goal of the season in Chelsea’s win over Tottenham. Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United downed Nottingham Forest.

In Italy, Gianluca Busio and Venezia downed Frosinone in a top-two Serie B clash.

In Germany, Malik Tillman and Bayer Leverkusen tied Borussia Moenchengladbach. Damion Downs featured off of the bench in Hamburg’s road triumph over Heidenheim. Mason Toye was sent off in Ingolstadt’s loss.

In France, Tanner Tessmann and Lyon claimed three points at Nantes. Folarin Balogun and Monaco endured a goal-less draw with Nice.

Elsewhere, Alex Zendejas enjoyed a memorable birthday after scoring the winning goal against Monterey. Rokas Pukstas scored once in Hajduk Split’s victory over Slaven. Danny Leyva assisted once in Necaxa’s dominant Liga MX win over Atletico San Luis. Bryan Reynolds and Westerlo suffered a humiliating loss to Sint-Truiden.
