Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Sergino Dest

Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Sergino Dest

It’s been a productive start to the new PSV campaign for Sergino Dest this summer.

Dest scored his second goal in as many matches on Saturday as Peter Bosz’s squad rolled past Sparta Rotterdam 6-1 in their Eredivisie opener. The U.S. men’s national team right back earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors for his productive performance in Eindhoven.

Dest scored PSV’s third goal of the first half, ripping a shot into the roof of the net following a 1-2 with Alassane Plea.

Dest would watch three additional goals from his PSV teammates in the second half before being substituted off with eight minutes to play. The 24-year-old has continued to look back at his best after scoring the winner in the Dutch Super Cup last weekend vs. Go Ahead Eagles.

A confident Dest is a good sign for PSV and the USMNT as the new season pushes forward.

Here is a closer look at the top Americans Abroad performers from the past week:

Josh Sargent

It may have come in a losing effort, but Josh Sargent’s opening goal for Norwich City on Saturday was a positive one.

Sargent’s defensive pressing led to a deflected goal in a 2-1 loss to Millwall, giving the American forward his latest contribution in Norwich colors. Although the visiting Lions would snatch all three points, Sargent showed again why would be desperately missed at Carrow Road, should he depart this summer.

Aidan Morris

Aidan Morris earned one of what should be many starts for Middlesbrough this season on Saturday.

Morris helped Rob Edwards’ squad claim a 1-0 home victory over Swansea City. The USMNT midfielder drew three fouls, won eight duels, and completed 95% of his passes.

After a productive first campaign on Teesside, Morris has hit the ground running to replicate that impact again this season.

Cameron Carter-Vickers

Sunday featured another shutout victory for Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic.

Carter-Vickers went the distance as Celtic defeated Aberdeen 2-0 at Pittodrie, moving top of the SPFL table through two matches. The American defender delivered his latest shutdown performance in Brendan Rodgers’ backline, completing 139 passes, winning three duels, and completing two tackles.

George Bello

LASK suffered a league loss on Sunday but George Bello walked away with his first goal of the season.

Bello scored the lone goal for LASK in its 3-1 defeat to WSG Tirol, finishing as one of the club’s top performers of the match. The former Atlanta United homegrown has continued to hold down the left back job at LASK, a trend that he hopes will continue as the campaign pushes forward.
