The father of Alexis Mac Allister, Carlos Mac Allister, has weighed in on swirling speculation linking the Liverpool star with a sensational summer move to Manchester United, saying his son’s priority remains at Anfield and adding that upcoming contract discussions with Liverpool will be crucial to any future plans.
Reports earlier this week suggested United are considering an audacious bid for the Argentine international as part of a major midfield overhaul at Old Trafford. However, sources close to the situation indicate that while United continue to monitor the midfielder’s situation, there is currently no concrete offer or advanced negotiations underway.
In comments to WinWin, Mac Allister’s father – who also acts as his agent – was quick to cool down speculation around a move down the M62. “Alexis is only thinking about LIVERPOOL at the moment. “We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is.”
When pressed about the possibility of a move away if Liverpool fail to meet his valuation or renewal terms, the elder Mac Allister declined to be drawn further, adding: “We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”
Mac Allister’s current deal at Anfield runs until June 2028, and Liverpool are understood to be keen to tie the midfielder down to fresh terms – especially as they look to maintain stability in their engine room alongside key teammates such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.
Contract talks, however, appear to have yet to formally kick off, leaving room for speculation to build in the transfer market.
Despite the noise, pundits and insiders have largely treated the Manchester United link with scepticism, noting the historic rivalry between the clubs and the unlikelihood of LIVERPOOL sanctioning a direct transfer to one of their fiercest rivals.
Indeed, recent coverage has labelled such a move as highly unexpected, with few believing a switch to Old Trafford is realistic at this stage of the saga.
For now, the message from the Mac Allister camp is clear: discussions over a contract extension will take centre stage, and any talk of a Premier League rival swooping in is premature.
Whether Liverpool make a formal offer and how both sides respond in the coming weeks could dictate if this story develops into a genuine transfer battle or quietly fades as another summer rumour
