Netflix
has very much been in the action business lately, with hits like Rebel Ridge and Carry-On cementing the streamer as one to watch when it comes to the popular genre. Now, the platform has gotten its hands on another explosive action flick…though it may not be quite the same critical slam-dunk as Aaron Pierre’s revenge thriller or Taron Egerton’s gripping Christmas adventure. Starring former Disney actor and Big Daddy star Dylan Sprouse
, Aftermath finds the actor leading the charge as a war veteran suffering from PTSD who finds himself being held hostage on Boston’s Tobin Memorial Bridge by a group of ex-military revolutionists. It sounds like they made a classic action movie mistake.
Aftermath is all set to land on Netflix on February 10, 2025 (via What’s on Netflix), this B-movie action delight comes courtesy of director Patrick Lussier, who is best known for helming the likes of the Nicolas Cage-led dark comedy action outing Drive Angry, the slasher movie My Bloody Valentine, and The Purge TV series. Lussier works from a script written by Nathan Graham Davis, with the cast including Mason Gooding (Scream), Dichen Lachman (Jurassic World Dominion), Megan Stott (Yes Day) and Ashley Pynn (Mean Girls), alongside Dylan Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Beautiful Wedding). You can check out the official synopsis for Aftermath below.
“Trapped on Boston’s Tobin Bridge after a bomb explodes, a former Army Ranger must use his elite training to save his sister and fellow hostages from a group of vengeful ex-military contractors led by an unhinged war criminal.”
Reviews Favorably Compare ‘Aftermath’ to a Bruce Willis Action Classic
While it never reached the critical heights of Rebel Ridge, Aftermath could well be the exact kind of B-movie action fare you’re looking for. Turning to Letterboxd for some insight, many of the reviews even compare the Dylan Sprouse-led thriller to one of the best action movies to ever do it: Die Hard. “A great under-the-radar Die Hard chamber action film. Oozes analog action. A nail-biter that carries traits of the book, Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp, of which, the 1987 film was based off of. For instance, here the Bruce Willis character is too suffering from war veteran PTSD and they are truly political terrorists. It starts fast and shoots like a bullet in intensity,” says user Nicholas G.

‘Ad Vitam’ is the latest revenge action thriller to top the Netflix chart, even if it has not completely won over critics.
Nicholas Kuhn adds, “It’s got plenty of elements from other action films, like Die Hard (which I think was the main inspiration) but you then get a story about military contractors and government misdeeds. Which wasn’t that inaccurate to what I’ve learned. The visual effects aren’t too shabby for a lower budget action film, it’s got a charm to it. Honestly, when this comes to streaming (if ever) it might perform well. Check it out!” Finally, rossboyask puts it simply, saying, “Super-fun actioner that works better than it should, given the concept. It’s funny in places and looks great.”
Once again, Aftermath is all set to land on Netflix on February 10, 2025.
