Absolute nonsense on Nick Woltemade

Before our 6-1 win at Qarabag and a night that saw Newcastle United set several new records in the Champions League, the day started with some potentially unsettling reports about Nick Woltemade.

In a shameless post by BBC Sport, they stated, ‘Woltemade is reportedly unhappy at Newcastle and would welcome a move back to Stuttgart or Bayern Munich’, followed by a link to their gossip column.

Dig a little deeper, which BBC Sport failed to do, and you’ll see that this ‘report’ from Germany came from Sport Bild’s Bayern-supporting columnist, Raimund Hinko.

It wasn’t ‘news’ or a major update claiming they had information that Woltemade was unhappy at Newcastle, it was the opinion of one journalist in Germany that the 24-year-old MAY benefit from a return to the Bundesliga as a future replacement for Harry Kane.

So, for BBC Sport to fail to do their research, then post a misleading story on the big man’s future to over 10 million followers on their official X account was shoddy work and irresponsible reporting to say the least.

And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this from the media, with relentless reporting on Sandro Tonali’s return to Italy being a constant theme ever since his £50m move from AC Milan.

Could it be that Woltemade leaves Newcastle in one of the next few windows? Possibly. It may be decided that he’s a better fit elsewhere, but it’s clear from yesterday’s lazy reports, Woltemade’s recent quotes, and his recent upturn in performances that this isn’t a player “unhappy” on Tyneside.
