“A real blow” – Newcastle suffer new injury worry as Howe issues post-match update

It’s been a generally positive day for Newcastle United, who saw off Nottingham Forest 2-0 this afternoon to make it two wins in a week for Eddie Howe’s Mags.

The boss named an unchanged line-up from our 4-0 win over Union SG in midweek, but there was one notable absence from the squad as Lewis Hall missed out.

He has been managing his load after stepping up his recovery from foot surgery earlier this year. However, it’s emerged that the left-back has suffered a hamstring injury, feeling the issue during his cameo in Belgium on Wednesday.

Howe is hopeful it will not be another “long-term” problem, but admits it’s a “real blow” to lose another full-back and doesn’t expect Hall to be back anytime soon ahead of a second scan in 10 days.

“He felt his hamstring against Union, which was a real blow for us.”

“We’ve been trying to manage him back. Unfortunately he just felt something in that game. We’ve had it scanned.

“Before we get conclusive evidence of how long he’ll be out, he needs another re-scan in about 10 days.

“So it’s not going to be a short-term injury. We hope it’s not going to be a long-term injury, but we sort of don’t know yet.”

With Tino Livramento still out for another seven weeks and Dan Burn no longer suited to that left-back role, Newcastle are lacking in full-back options.

After 2025 full of fitness battles for the 21-year-old, let’s hope this is minor and one he recovers from quickly.
