‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Episode 4 Lands Highest ‘Game of Thrones’ IMDB Score

When A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms debuted on HBO Max, many people were instantly on board with this new and different Game of Thrones series, but some couldn’t gel with the dragon-less drama surrounding Ser Duncan and Egg. Now, four episodes in and the increasing praise for the series has landed Episode 4 the joint highest IMDb score of the entire Game of Thrones franchise.

As many originally predicted, once fans have grown used to this less spectacular but completely character-driven return to Westeros, the show can do very little wrong. That has been proven as the series hit a new high with a 9.7 score, the same as was achieved by several Game of Thrones episodes, including Season 3, Episode 9, “The Rains of Castamere” aka the “Red Wedding” episode, and the final two episodes of Season 6, “The Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter.” It also matched House of the Dragon‘s Season 2, Episode 4, “The Red Dragon and the Gold.”

After establishing this new period of Westeros history in its opening episodes, Episode 3, “The Squire“, revealed Egg’s Targaryen lineage to those who were not already aware, but did so in a way that even had fans of Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas calling the moment “fantastic.” Now, the series has continued to build its reputation as one of the best shows in TV right now, leading to many calling it “absolutely perfect.” Every new series has a moment where it really hits its stride, and for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, this was it.

Following the events and revelations of the previous episode, Ser Duncan finds himself on a collision course with the Targaryens and looks to be set for a deadly trial by combat until Aerion Targaryen insists on a trial of seven. This forces Dunk to find six others to fight alongside him if he is to see another day.

Fans have been completely sold by Episode 4, from the show finally incorporating the classic Game of Thrones theme, to the way the episode builds throughout its short runtime to leave fans both completely satisfied but also in eager anticipation of next week’s episode. The only slight problem is that there will be an extended wait for Episode 5 due to this week’s episode being released early ahead of Super Bowl weekend.

However, that is something fans have not had the heart to complain about and have instead been raving about the quality episode A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has just delivered. One 10/10 review said, “A truly glamorous and epicly exciting episode where every corner brought another surprise.” Another added, “This episode is a masterclass in buildup, character payoff, and thematic resonance. Simply outstanding” A third echoed the comments of many, stating, “The ending alone is up there with anything from GOT.”

With only two more episodes to go, everything looks set for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to end its first season as one of the highest rated of any Game of Thrones series so far. With many more seasons reportedly being planned, it looks like HBO has once again managed to put the worries about the franchise’s future well and truly on ice.
