‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’ Beaten on Apple TV Streaming Chart by ‘The Family Plan 2’

‘A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving’ Beaten on Apple TV Streaming Chart by ‘The Family Plan 2’

Mark Wahlberg is currently dominating the Apple TV movie chart with The Family Plan 2, but everyone knows that A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is the only movie that should be topping the chart this weekend. At the time of writing, the 1973 Thanksgiving staple is at number 2 on the U.S. Apple TV chart, followed closely behind A Charlie Brown Christmas, sandwiched between Wahlberg’s new movie and its 2023 predecessor.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving forms part of a trilogy of specials that many families have made an annual watch at this time of year. Along with A Charlie Brown Halloween and A Charlie Brown Christmas, the movies have been watched through the generations over the last five decades, and there is every chance that A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving could be back in the number one spot before the turkey goes cold.

While A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving does not hold perfect review scores (70% from critics, 76% from audiences), one thing that everyone agrees is that it isn’t quite Thanksgiving until you have put the Peanuts movie on. As The AV Club’s LaToya Ferguson puts it:

“Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang are always the right medicine for any and every holiday.”

Several reviewers feel that the movie should be “as essential to Thanksgiving as the turkey,” while others have claimed to have had “childhood nostalgia overload” when watching it with their own families. One thing that cannot be denied is that A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving has received much higher praise than the movie that is currently holding it off Apple TV’s number one spot.

Mark Wahlberg’s ‘The Family Plan 2’ Is a Hit but Not With Critics

Apple TV

Mark Wahlberg has often frequented the action genre with reasonable results in the last decade, and The Family Plan was a record-breaking streaming hit on Apple TV in 2023. Now, The Family Plan 2 looks to be doing the same kind of numbers, but when it comes to its reviews, the sequel has been severely lacking in…everything.

On its debut, Wahlberg’s return as former assassin Dan Morgan struggled to a 15% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, in the last 24 hours, this has improved dramatically, but only as far as a still “rotten” 35%. While many have found no issue with the premise of the movie – Dan and his family find their vacation being disrupted when a face from his past returns to haunt him – it is one that has been done before and done better. Even audiences have struggled to find much positive to say about the film, leading one scathing reviewer to call it “the most nothing movie ever made.”

However, everyone needs something to watch as the holidays arrive, and while there are many other options out there, a brand new movie is always going to attract plenty of attention, whether it deserves it or not.
