The Man of Steel returns in the newly released behind-the-scenes footage from Superman. James Gunn hopes to bring the superhero icon back to the silver screen and launch a whole new cinematic universe with his Superman reboot, which finds largely unknown actor David Corenswet
donning the red and blue suit and taking to the skies to fight for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow. You can check out the new footage below.
Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. Written and directed by James Gunn
(the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise), the filmmaker brings his signature style to the original superhero as he crafts a newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

This 1987 Flop Killed the ‘Superman’ Franchise for Nearly 20 Years
Christopher Reeve regretted his decision to return as Superman in ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace,’ and so did the audience.
Superman stars David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Juror #2) as Lex Luthor. The comic book outing also stars Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Alien Romulus), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box) and Neva Howell (Greedy People).
The DCU Needs ‘Superman’ To Succeed
There is a lot riding on the shoulders of Superman. So, will it satisfy fans of the character and movie-going audiences? Well, at the moment it’s hard to tell, with conflicting rumored test screening reactions leaving fans not knowing how to feel about the Man of Steel’s comeback. While “insider” Jeff Sneider has revealed that, following the release of one of his newsletters, he received a call from a source who claimed “You got one thing wrong. And that’s about Superman, which I continue to hear is ‘terrible.'” However, in stark contrast, fellow insider John Campea revealed the opposite, saying, “I’ve heard [Superman’s] tremendously good.”
James Gunn’s vision recently received high praise from Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEO Mike De Luca (via Deadline), who called it “a five-star movie.”
“I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it. It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional.”
While Superman will mark the beginning of the DCU on the big screen, the new franchise has already started on the small screen, with the HBO and Max animated series Creature Commandos introducing us to the recalibrated world of DC. Much like the MCU, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have plenty of projects in the pipeline, including Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Clayface movie, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and a Teen Titans outing, among others. Superman is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025, as the first installment in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
