Premiering on April 4, 2025, Dying For Sex stars Michelle Williams and a superb supporting cast of characters. The FX/Hulu miniseries is based on Nikki Boyer/Wondery’s podcast series and focuses on Williams’ Molly Kochan, a woman who loses all sexual inhibitions following her breast cancer diagnosis and begins living life to the fullest. To help her through her difficult time, Molly leans on her best friend, Nikki, and mother, Gail.
With all eight episodes available on Hulu, Dying for Sex balances the harsh realities of having cancer with carefree escapism that makes the show far less depressing than those unfamiliar with the podcast may assume. As always, Williams gives a sublime performance, which is elevated by the colorful characters and excellent ensemble portraying them. Now let them be introduced.
Michelle Williams as Molly Kochan
Five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams plays Molly Kochan in Dying for Sex. Molly is a married woman whose life changes drastically after she is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. With the disease spreading rapidly, Molly abruptly ends her 13-year marriage and begins a journey of sexual awakening. Molly turns to her friend Nikki to strip her inhibitions and live life fully with the precious time she has left.
After beginning her career in the teen drama Dawson’s Creek, Williams has become a bona fide movie star with Academy Award talent, starring in such movies as Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, My Week with Marilyn, Manchester by the Sea, The Fabelmans, and the FX miniseries Fosse/Verdon.
Jenny Slate as Nikki Boyer
Jenny Slate plays Nikki Boyer, co-host of the titular podcast on which the miniseries is based. Part caretaker, part enabler, Nikki sacrifices her life to nurse Molly following her cancer diagnosis. Nikki is a disorganized aspiring actor whose erratic nature causes chaos and confusion. Even so, Nikki encourages Molly to open her mind sexually and enjoy life to the utmost with the limited time she has.
Jenny Slate is a live performer and vocal actor with over 80 credits since her career began. She co-starred with Michelle Williams in Venom, with notable credits including Obvious Child, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Bob’s Burgers, Big Mouth, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and more.

Jay Duplass as Steve
Jay Duplass portrays Steve in Dying for Sex. Steve is Molly’s husband, whom she leaves after 13 years of marriage. Once Molly is diagnosed with cancer, Steve is less supportive of Molly’s newfound sexual desires, and their union becomes strained. Molly ends her marriage and spends her time with Nikki attending sex parties.
Along with his brother Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass got his start in independent mumblecore movies in the early 2000s. Rob Delaney as Neighbor Guy
Rob Delaney portrays the nameless “Neighbor Guy,” a sexy next-door dweller whom Molly indulges her sexual appetite with over and over. While she never catches his real name, Neighbor Guy helps Molly relax and distract her mind from the terror that cancer brings. Based on his silly moniker, Neighbor Guy fits the bill of a classic sitcom character.
With over 60 credits since 2004, Delaney is best known for Deadpool & Wolverine, Bad Monkey, Catastrophe, Argylle, Black Mirror, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. Delaney has also voiced roles in Big Nate, The Great North, Invincible, Birdgirl, Fairfax, and more.
Sissy Spacek as Gail
Academy Award winner Sissy Spacek plays Gail in Dying For Sex. Gail is Molly’s mother and a recovering drug addict living a sober life. In Episode 5, “My Pet,” Gail visits Molly and gives her emotional support following her cancer diagnosis. While estranged in the past, Gail wants to be there for Molly during this difficult time, and they begin a healing process together.

Margaret Cho plays a fellow cancer patient who receives treatment at the hospital Molly attends in Dying for Sex. Cho provides comedic relief in an environment where it is most needed, reminding viewers of her stand-up chops and decades of sitcom experience. While she helps Molly laugh to keep from crying at the hospital, Cho could use more screen time.
