‘Masters of the Universe’s Teela Star Camila Mendes Teases Plot Point

‘Masters of the Universe’s Teela Star Camila Mendes Teases Plot Point

When news broke that Nicholas Galitzine

had been cast as He-Man in the forthcoming Masters of the Universe

project, fans immediately wondered how the classic hero’s rugged persona might translate into a modern live-action adaptation. Some leaked set images and an official image seemed to have settled any initial nerves about how Galitzine would take on the role. Now, another of the movie’s stars has seemed to suggest that the new He-Man may have a humorous streak running through him.

Camila Mendes joined the live-action Masters of the Universe movie in the role of Teela, and while discussing her part in the movie, the actress also touched on something she feels that Galitzine really brings to the film, but teased that saying too much could give away a plot point. Speaking to Collider, Mendez responded to the question of what makes Galitzine’s performance unique by saying:

“I feel like if I were to tell you that, it would completely give away a huge plot point, but I think it’d be his sense of humor. He’s very funny, very talented, and very funny.”

Depending on your point of view, this could be a great sign or the worst news that you have ever heard. Many fans are hoping that this Masters of the Universe movie will bring to life the 1980s cartoon series in a way that has never been seen before. Whether that includes a healthy dose of comedy is something that we need to wait to find out, but a lot of fans will be hoping that the result isn’t an all-out laugh-fest.

Although all eyes are on Galitzine’s He-Man and getting a first look at Jared Leto’s take on Skeletor, Mendes has been discussing her role in the movie as Teela. The character became a huge talking point in Kevin Smith’s Netflix series Masters of the Universe Revelation, as the character became the central focus of much of the show as He-Man was out of the picture. While it seems that He-Man will certainly be the main focus of this new movie, Teela’s role is one that Mendes is ecstatic to be playing. She said:

“Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I’ve always dreamed of being in a project like this, and there’s something that is so special about it because it doesn’t have the same fanbase as Marvel or DC. It feels like it’s a fresh superhero universe. It hasn’t really been reinvented in a long time. It’s exciting to create this world and in a less pressured environment, if that makes sense. Then also, I think the project itself is just really fun and funny and has layers and beautiful arcs and stories. I love Teela’s character so much, and I relate to her in so many ways that I can’t really talk about, but I think that’s all I can say about that.”

It is known that the movie will be putting a unique spin on the story of He-Man, with Prince Adam seemingly being on Earth at the beginning of the movie, before he is pulled back to Eternia to battle the evil of Skeletor. The film has built a cast of characters that harks back to the old animated series, suggesting this will be a very different film to the 1987 cult classic, which abandoned most of the series’ lore. The film will include Adam’s parents, King Randor (James Purefoy, Rome), and Queen Marlena (Charlotte Riley), Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), Fisto (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), Ram-Man (Jon Xue Zhang), Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie), Trap-Jaw (Sam C. Wilson), Goat Man(Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), and Tri-Klops (Kojo Attah).
