Bruno Guimaraes releases emotional statement

Bruno Guimaraes was every Newcastle United fan yesterday.

Tears of joy and relief at the full-time whistle as he celebrated beating Liverpool to claim the Carabao Cup in front of 32,000 Toon fans at Wembley.

The scenes were emotional and unforgettable, as was Bruno’s performance in the middle of the park, where he, Joelinton and Tonali outfought and outclassed Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai in a midfield battle we had to win.

After partying through the night with fans, family and his Toon teammates, Bruno has now released an emotional message to supporters.

Our captain has issued a personal message on social media in reaction to yesterday’s incredible day at Wembley,

Bruno reveals how proud he is to have written his name in the Newcastle United history books and thanks the fans for their constant support; insisting we should never have to wait this long for silverware after that 70-year wait.

H also discusses his ambition at the club, hopes that “many more” trophies follow and ends with a message we can all agree one; “we deserve it – we are one!”.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Bruno said:

“Well, I think the reality hasn’t sunk in for us or you, but we’ve made history, guys. I’m very proud to be part of this group.

“NUFC fans, you played a fundamental role in this journey; you’ve been wonderful to us, and a club like ours should never go so long without winning a title. May many more come.

“If this is a dream, never wake me up because I’m still in ecstasy. We started together, and we’ll finish together.

“I’ve been ambitious since my first day at the club, saying I wanted to put my name in the club’s history and win something for this team, and I feel fulfilled having achieved that.

“Enjoy this moment because you deserve it; we deserve it because we are one! What a moment to be a fan.

“With affection, BG39.”

The interview above is one I’ll never forget. You could see the emotion in his face as he celebrated the win, but getting back to my London hotel room last night and watching this brought another tear to my eye.

Bruno just gets it. He has incredible passion for the club, he’s an outstanding footballer and also one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet. How powerful is this quote:

“It’s one of the best days of my life; they deserve it. For them this is like the World Cup. People who’ve died, people who’ve grown up and they’ve not seen Newcastle as Champions.

“Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Shearer.”

You’re already a legend, Bruno. Thank you for everything and here’s to more great times together!
