The new Astraeos map in Ark: Survival Ascended has launched, featuring a stunning Greek-inspired landscape filled with challenges and opportunities. This large world is much bigger than previous Ark maps and has a unique environment that requires thoughtful taming strategies. You can’t just tame a creature and forget about it anymore; Astraeos has diverse terrains and challenging boss battles that need a well-planned selection of creatures to help you overcome specific challenges.
The map’s size, along with its various biomes and tricky underwater areas, is a lot different than the vanilla game. To succeed here, you need to understand each creature’s strengths and weaknesses and how to use them effectively in this unique setting. There are many creatures to choose from, including some familiar ones and exciting new additions that feel out of Greek mythology, which can be overwhelming. Luckily, it gets a lot easier when you look at them individually.
Air Dinos Are Great For Long Distance Travel
Best Flying Creatures For Astraeos Map
In the Astraeos DLC of Ark Survival Ascended, flying creatures play a key role in the game, offering many benefits. Their main advantage is their ability to move quickly, which helps players explore the large maps, gather resources, and escape from danger. Being able to fly also allows access to hard-to-reach places like mountaintops and high caves that hold special resources and creatures.

In addition to these basic types, Astraeos features animals with special abilities. For example, the Megatherium can gain a rage buff, making it especially valuable in certain boss fights. The Ankylosaurus has tough skin and a strong tail, which makes it good for gathering resources and defense. The Beelzebufo, a large frog, has powerful poison that makes it a strong defensive creature. Keep in mind that some dinosaurs have “Tek” versions that give high-tech gameplay advantages.
Sea Dinos Are The Creatures of The Ocean
Dominating The Ocean With Dinos
In the Astraeos DLC of Ark: Survival Ascended, many kinds of aquatic creatures offer various benefits to players beyond just getting around. The ocean covers a large part of the map, making it important to have aquatic mounts for exploring and gathering resources efficiently.

The top-tier aquatic mounts are major investments that offer great advantages. The Megalodon and Mosasaurus are top predators that can inflict heavy damage and dominate underwater fights, but they can be more vulnerable to environmental dangers. Each creature offers a mix of High-Speed combat ability, resource-gathering skills, or resilience to environmental threats, making them suitable for various playstyles and strategies.
Amphibian Dinos Aren’t Really One Or The Other
Unique Amphibian Dinos To Tame
In the Astraeos DLC of Ark: Survival Ascended, there are many different types of creatures that aren’t entirely sea-based but also not entirely on land. These we’ll call Amphibian to make things easier. These dinos can be really great to catch, but like any other category, they can be less than worth your time.

It’s typically better for players to know exactly what they want before going out and trying to capture the best dinos in Ark: Survival Ascended. I always just try to stick to a few that I like, regardless of what they’re good for because there are so many to keep track of. If you have a preference, go after those dinos.
ARK: Survival Ascended is a reimagined version of the 2017 action-adventure survival MMORPG by the developers at Studio Wildcard and Grove Street Games. Built in Unreal Engine 5, players will return to ARK to build tribes, fight and tame dinosaurs, and brave the elements as they battle to survive in a unique sandbox where crafting and resource management is essential.
