Born Again’ TV Spot Unveils Jon Bernthal as Punisher

Although it’s been billed as a brand-new show, it’s hard not to see Daredevil: Born Again as another chapter in the original Netflix series. Disney+ has released a new preview that finally puts Jon Bernthal back in his iconic Punisher outfit, reprising his role for the first time since 2019, when The Punisher Season 2 was released on Netflix. Additionally, the streamer has confirmed how many episodes will be arriving on Mar. 4, and fans will be excited to learn that Daredevil is coming back with a splash.

A new TV spot for Daredevil: Born Again reveals a ton of new, action-packed footage featuring Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) battling several baddies in the upcoming series. However, the big reveal is Frank Castle donning the Punisher logo once again, and presumably the long trench coat seen briefly during The Punisher Season 2 finale. Despite a significant time jump and a bevy of new characters, there is a lot of continuity thus far between the Disney+ series and Netflix’s beloved show. Of course, the preview also reveals several exciting new elements, including White Tiger, another vigilante working in New York City.

The teaser confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ this Mar. 4 with two episodes. The series will then presumably air one episode per week, ending its run sooner than expected for the nine-episode season. Although it was originally going to be comprised of 18 episodes, Marvel is hard at work on Season 2 already, currently filming in New York. Check out the newly-released TV spot below:

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Goes Further Than Original Netflix Show

Daredevil: Born Again will borrow plenty of elements from the Netflix show, but the creatives behind the upcoming series have made it clear that it will be different from anything audiences have seen before. Showrunner Dario Scardapane is a fan of the Netflix original but has teased Born Again taking the darker tone a step further. He previously described Netflix’s Daredevil as a noir, while Born Again leans harder on the crime aspect and has “a pace and a scope that, for a lot of reasons, Netflix wasn’t able to do.”

“I really feel that Netflix’s Daredevil, which I know in my blood, was much more noir, and this show is more New York crime story. It has elements of The Sopranos and King Of New York. There’s a feeling for those classic ’90s crime tales. It has a pace and a scope that, for a lot of reasons, Netflix wasn’t able to do. They were very dark, cinematically, not necessarily story-wise, although there were some dark elements. We’re much darker.”

Daredevil: Born Again has been incessantly teased as a more violent, bloody version of the original series, while also setting its sights on another acclaimed superhero series. The showrunner said that HBO’s The Penguin is a direct competitor, but that Born Again differs in several key ways: “We’re a little faster, meaner, cleaner in our storytelling.” Living up to the expectations of the Netflix show is one thing, but it seems Born Again’s ambitions stretch far past the shadow of its predecessor.
