After a series of excellent performances, resulting in him winning the Sela Player of the Month for October, new details of Lewis Hall’s development have emerged after a tough first season on Tyneside.
According to the i’s Mark Douglas, Hall has gone to great lengths in order to improve his overall game and force himself into Eddie Howe’s starting XI plans.
Douglas reveals that Hall ‘started doing double training sessions’ at Newcastle’s Little Benton training ground base last season, ‘adding extra hours to his schedule’ to improve his fitness and all-round game.
The report adds that he was constantly looking to analyse his training and performances – he spoke regularly to club analysts in a bid to iron out his weaknesses – and showed immense dedication during gym sessions, where staff were impressed by his commitment to strength and fitness work in the gym.
This season, it’s fair to say Hall is reaping the rewards. He’s evolved from a player expected to rotate with Dan Burn and Lloyd Kelly into a widely recognised talent being touted for the England National Team by many pundits after his man of the match display in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.
Whilst the 20-year-old was always bought to be a long term ‘investment’ by the club, having been a much-heralded one-to-watch whilst at Chelsea, Hall’s rapid progress and dedication to Eddie Howe’s notoriously high standards is a very welcome sight to see.
Forming a full back partnership with Tino Livramento, the young duo have limitless potential and are on track to be England regulars if they continue on his trajectory.
Considering they were bought for a combined £60m, also some of the best bargain buys the club could have made so early under PIF ownership.
