Frank Grillo
has carved out a reputation for gritty, hard-hitting roles that have seen him jumping up the rankings of go-to action heroes. As well as appearances in big franchises such as The Purge, as Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now being part of the new DCU, Grillo has delivered a long line of masculine action movies that fans just cannot get enough of. Now one of his 2024 offerings, Long Gone Heroes,
is heading to the top of the Tubi
free streaming chart.
However, with all that in mind, Long Gone Heroes is probably not one that will sit on the top of anyone’s personal list of Grillo greats – does anyone have that list? – but it is certainly proving a valuable asset to Tubi. The synopsis for the movie reads:
“Gunner, a special forces soldier who has witnessed the darkest side of country and combat, is forced back into the field of battle to save his niece, who is being held in South America. As the fight intensifies, Gunner and his team discover that her disappearance is part of a corrupt private operation that hits way too close to home.”
Like many movies with a synopsis that includes the words “special forces soldier,” “corruption,” “team,” and some form of rescue attempt, the film’s biggest failing for many is the rinse-and-repeat plot that has formed the basis for dozens of action movies since the 1980s. While Grillo is another actor who has found his niche in this kind of movie, and has built up a strong following for doing so, he is never going to win over those who just have no time for modern, churned out action fare.
Is ‘Long Gone Heroes’ Worth Watching?
Despite being released by Lionsgate in September 2024, the film has been reviewed by no critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and barely has any kind of presence online either, with only minimal details being available on the usual movie sites and social media accounts. And that is something that has probably played a part in the film’s Top 10 position on Tubi. People are always curious about movies they have not really heard about, particularly when they are being offered up for free.
Long Gone Heroes sees Grillo joined by Josh Hutcherson, Andy Garcia, Mekhi Phifer, Eden Brolin, and Melissa Leo among others, but even a competent cast cannot make up for the plot’s shortcomings and a “boring” end result. Naturally, Grillo enthusiasts will not have a bad word said about the film, and praise it as a “must-watch” action flick. Perhaps that should be taken with the same pinch of salt as a social media scooper’s latest Spider-Man exclusive.

The good thing is that it doesn’t really matter when anyone thinks about the film as anyone can currently check it out for free, meaning that if you hate it, the worst thing that will happen is you will keep it in the Top 10 and inadvertently drive even more people to suffer the same way you did. With that in mind, Long Gone Heroes is streaming now on Tubi for anyone who cares to hunt it down.
