, for the buddy cop action comedy Skiptrace
, which is headed for Max next month. Directed by Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger’s Renny Harlin, Skiptrace pairs Chan and Knoxville together after a Hong Kong detective finds himself teaming up with an American gambler to take down a major criminal.
Written by Jay Longino and BenDavid Grabinski, Skiptrace stars Fan Bingbing, Eve Torres, Eric Tsang, Winston Chao, and Yeon Jung-hoon alongside Chan and Knoxville. Released in 2016, Skiptrace was met with a… not-exactly-ideal response from critics, with the action movie receiving a “rotten” score of 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and a somehow-even-worse score of 27 from audiences on the Popcornmeter.
However, while it may not be one of the most beloved action outings in Jackie Chan’s back catalog, Skiptrace is worth a watch for fans of the actor, and is now due to hit Max on February 1. Any fans of Chan and Knoxville are sure to find enjoyment in the pair’s chemistry as the they launch themselves headfirst into the action, with little concern over how they might fare physically when all is said and done.

Unfortunately, Skiptrace didn’t quite manage to match the success of the action star’s best-known buddy cop franchise, Rush Hour, with fans still awaiting a fourth outing for Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. While the pair have assured fans that the long-awaited sequel is happening, recent reports claim that Rush Hour 4 is being held back by director Brett Ratner, with the studio harboring concerns about potentially having to work with Ratner again as he was “part of the pitch as the project’s potential director and producer, despite having not worked in Hollywood for the past seven years, since he faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment in 2017.”

Jonathan Entwistle, who is best known for I’m Not Okay with This and The End of the F***ing World, will helm Karate Kid: Legends, with the sequel now officially bringing together the disparate Karate Kid franchises and building on the huge success of the Netflix series Cobra Kai. The movie is written by Rob Lieber (Sony’s Peter Rabbit, Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day), and stars Jackie Chan as Mr. Han, Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, and Ben Wang as Li Fong, with the rest of the cast comprised of Joshua Jackson, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, and Jennifer-Lyn Christie. Karate Kid: Legends is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
