‘Frasier’ Revival Canceled by Paramount+ After 2 Seasons

’s time as Frasier Crane appears to be at an end for now, as Paramount+ have officially canceled the Frasier
revival series after just two seasons. Grammer has previously hinted that he wanted to see the show run for as long as his first time around, but just months after the conclusion of Season 2, those hoping to see more from the popular Cheers spinoff are going to be left incredibly disappointed.

The revival premiered in October 2023 on Paramount+, bringing back Grammer as Crane after nearly two decades. In the show, the character returned to Boston for a whole new chapter, and while the series delivered a few familiar faces, and included the signature humor of the series, many had hoped to see many characters returning, slightly tarnishing the show’s return. However, Frasier did secure a Season 2 renewal despite not landing with the bang CBS Studios had been hoping for.

Overall, the series held strong review scores across both seasons from an audience perspective, with the nostalgia drive leading the show to an aggregate of 77%. However, even though critics gave Season 1 a “fresh” 67% Tomatometer score, Season 2 saw that drop to a middle-of-the-road 50%. With Paramount becoming much more known for being the home of everything Taylor Sheridan in recent years, it seems that Fraiser has been ridden out of town.

Kesley Grammer Was Optimistic About ‘Frasier’s Future

Back in October, Kelsey Grammer was thinking big thoughts about the future of Frasier. Having successfully revived the series and managed to secure a second season, it seemed that things were looking bring for his long-awaited return. In fact, he has some very ambitious plans about how long he wanted to see the show run for. He told the Toronto Sun:

“I want to do another 100 episodes at least. Whether we get there sooner rather than later, I don’t know. We could get there in four years if they wanted to, but we don’t need to. If they want to spread it out a little longer, that’s fine with me. I think he’s going to be relevant and interesting because I intend to stay that way.”

A Frasier revival star assumed they’d lose their job following a cancer diagnosis.

Grammer also knew that fans really wanted to see more of the original cast return alongside him, and he addressed a plan for this. While he couldn’t guarantee fans would get all the revival appearances they wanted, he did have a hopeful outlook on delivering a Season 3 nostalgia kick. He said:

“We may see Niles (David Hyde Pierce), but it will depend on him, honestly, and whether we come up with a story that makes sense. Of course we have his son on the show, and he keeps us connected to Niles and Daphne (Jane Leeves). But it would be really fun if they put in an appearance.”

Now, those who have enjoyed catching up with Frasier will have to wait and see if the show is picked up by another streamer. It is currently unclear whether anyone will be willing to take on the castoff, but the original Frasier series is streaming on both Hulu and Prime Video, making them a logical place for CBS Studios to start shopping the series around. Season 1 & 2 of the revival can still currently be streamed on Paramount +.
