Filming on Scream 7 is finally underway, and the cast keeps growing. Following a controversial development period — which included firing Scream VI star Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega leaving the project — the cast for the seventh entry in the horror franchise is taking shape with the return of one of the “core four” introduced in the 2022 installment, Jasmin Savoy Brown.
In a new report from Variety, it has been confirmed that Jasmin Savory Brown will reprise her role as Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 7. Mindy Meeks-Martin is the twin sister of Mason Gooding’s Chad, and they are the nephew of Jamie Kennedy’s Randy Martin from Scream and Scream 2. Brown previously played Mindy in both 2022’s Scream and the sequel Scream 6, with the character being the first openly queer character in the franchise’s history. She is also known for her role as Teen Taissa Turner on the hit Showtime series Yellowjackets.
The news of Jasmin Savory Brown returning for Scream 7 comes on the same day that it was confirmed that Joel McHale would be playing Mark Evans, the husband of Sidney Prescott, retconning their original intent for her husband to be Patrick Dempsey’s Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. After sitting out the sixth film, Neve Campbell is returning as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, and will be joined by other returning actors Courtney Cox (who plays Gale Weathers) and Gooding (who plays the aforementioned Chad Meeks-Martin). Joining the franchise are Isabel May (1883) as Sidney and Mark’s daughter with Celeste O’Connor (Madame Web), McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Asa Germann (Gen V), Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), and Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) in unconfirmed roles
‘Scream 7’s Troubled Production
Jasmin Savory Brown and Mason Gooding returning to reprise their roles as the Meeks-Martin siblings will certainly provide a sense of continuity with the story of Scream and Scream VI. However, it still feels incomplete without Barrera and Ortega returning as Sam and Tara Carpenter, respectively. Barrera and Ortega were originally set to reprise their roles for Scream 7, but on November 21, 2023, Spyglass Media reportedly fired Barrera for speaking out about the Israel–Hamas war. The next day, Jenna Ortega dropped out of Scream 7. It was reported that it was due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday Season 2, though many noted that the announcement’s timing seemed to suggest more than scheduling conflicts.

After all the hirings and firings, who is left to lead the charge?
Firing Barrera was met with extreme criticism by fans of the franchise, with Spyglass Media going on the defensive to try to court back public interest. After a pay dispute led Neve Campbell to not return for Scream VI, the studio finally paid up to get her to return to Scream 7 in an attempt to entice fans back. Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was originally set to helm Scream 7 but dropped out following the swift backlash to Barrera’s firing, so now franchise writer and producer Kevin Williamson is set to direct the newest entry. While Jasmin Savory Brown and Mason Gooding’s inclusion is nice, it can’t help but feel like all the exciting momentum Scream VI laid for the franchise is now being walked back with Scream 7 looking to the same formula, just now with Sidney Prescott’s kids.
Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
