You is back for a fifth and final time this April, with Penn Badgley
’s disturbingly endearing serial killer Joe Goldberg returning to Netflix
in the first trailer for You Season 5. You first started in 2018 and is based on the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes. Led by Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager in New York who falls in love with an aspiring writer, the series has taken audiences all over the world as Joe’s toxic infatuations, dangerous obsessions, and just general love of killing escalates more and more. You can check out the new trailer for You Season 5 below.
The show has since followed Joe from New York to Los Angeles, from Los Angeles to the Californian suburbs, and from California to London. And each time, Joe has managed to find the time to kill, stalk, and generally lead a pretty reprehensible lifestyle. The most recent (and most shocking) fourth series picked up with Joe now living in London under his new identity as “Jonathan Moore,” an English university professor. He develops an interest in Kate Galvin, the girlfriend of his obnoxious fellow professor Malcolm Harding, who lives in the flat across from him.
The fourth, and thus penultimate, series of You was split into two parts, wrapping up back in March 2023. Avoiding any consequences of his duplicitous and murderous deeds once again, Joe is now in a more powerful position than ever before thanks to his relationship with Kate Galvin (Charlotte Ritchie), who possesses all manner of wealth and influence after taking over his father’s business.
Will ‘You’ Season 5 Finally See Joe Get His Comeuppance?
You Season 5 being the last was announced last year, with showrunner Sera Gamble, who will step down from being showrunner and will instead be on board as an executive producer, teasing a “delightfully twisted conclusion” for Joe Goldberg.
“As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I’m immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros. and Netflix. Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honor and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgely. I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”

Gamble also revealed that the ghosts of Joe’s past will come back to haunt him this time around.
“We have kept scrupulous track of everybody who knows anything about Joe who’s not dead. The ones who are dead could still appear in dreams and hallucinations. There are some very smart people who are alive. Some of them are in jail, and some of them are basically in witness protection, but there’s no reason to believe he’s safe.”
