A long-time James Bond favorite has suspiciously dodged a question about whether he is in fact in line to star as the new 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in 2021’s No Time to Die. During a recent appearance on Capital Breakfast in the United Kingdom, actor James Norton
deftly avoided answering a straight question from a fan about whether we are “going to see you as Bond next?”
Not only did Norton largely avoid the question, adding to the suspicion and intrigue was the response from co-host Sian Welby, who laughed and said, “We’re not even allowed to ask that.” Now, why would they have been told not to ask such a question if there were no truth to it? Let the curious chin-stroking begin. Swerving the question, and revealing whether he was out of his “sad dad era,” Norton replied…
“Bond question! Do you know what, when they asked me what the villain I’d like to play, I was like, ‘Don’t say Bond villain, don’t say Bond villain.’ Because you know the story, the media headline.
Is it the end of a sad dad era? I don’t think so. I think there’s more sad dads to come. In fact, the show I just mentioned, playing King Harold in the Battle of Hastings drama which we’ve got coming out, I’ve got a little tinge of the sad dad in that. So, I’m not out of that era quite yet!”
It’s also hard to ignore the addition of the word “yet” in his response.
The Clues Keep Coming Regarding James Norton’s Rumored Casting as James Bond
Known for his roles in the likes of Happy Valley, Grantchester, and Little Women, James Norton has long been a fan-favorite for the role of James Bond. The actor often finds his name standing alongside other firm favorites such as Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Gladiator 2 star Paul Mescal, Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill, The Gentlemen’s Theo James, Fantastic Beasts actor Callum Turner, and Challengers‘ Josh O’Connor.

He’s made appearances in 17 James Bond movies and you probably didn’t even notice…
Adding further intrigue to the 007 mystery, Norton’s role in his recent drama series Playing Nice may have given away the biggest clue yet that, not only is he being eyed for the role of James Bond, but that he has already signed on the dotted line. And it’s all because of an unusual contract rule. During the series, Norton’s character attends an elite party, at which everyone in attendance is sporting a tuxedo…except Norton. It is now well-known that any actor who signs a contract to play James Bond is not allowed to wear a tuxedo in any other project, thus keeping the image of 007 intact. And this could be the biggest giveaway yet that the next James Bond has now been found.
Of course, it could also be a mere coincidence. While James Norton does possess all the necessary requirements for the role, a behind-the-scenes falling out between Amazon and Bond producer Barara Broccoli could result in us waiting some time before finding out what the future of the franchise holds.
