Bill Murray
is a man of many talents, and not content with his many movie appearances, the actor has now set off on a U.S. tour with his band, Bill Murray and His Blood Brothers. The ensemble group brings the Ghostbusters star together with rock and blues musicians including Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia, and the tour has already kicked off in Chicago on January 3.
While this may not be a tour that is about to rival Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, Murray’s star appeal combined with a group of rocking musicians will certainly find its audience. However, to get your own ticket for one of these “dad-rock cover band” concerts is going to cost you upwards of $250 per ticket for the privilege. Thankfully, for those unable to quite afford it – or make the journey to your nearest show – the magic of YouTube has you covered with several videos of the January 3 concert, and the November show that kicked everything off, floating around for your listening pleasure.
Murray’s collaboration with Zito and Castiglia originated from a performance at The Murray Brothers annual Caddyshack Golf Tournament in St. Augustine, Florida. Their on-stage collaboration saw the 74-year-old come up with the idea of taking their collective talents out on the road with a unique experience for those who manage to catch it. The next stop of the tour is as part of SF Sketchfest at the Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA, on January 29. After a run of dates through until April, the tour will take a break – presumably when Murray could be heading back to an acting role – before one final date (for now) in Kentucky in October. The list of dates includes:
February 7: Variety Playhouse, Atlanta, GA
March 25: Paramount Theatre, Austin, TX
April 11: Val Air Ballroom, Des Moines, IA
October 4: Louisville Palace, Louisville, KY
Tickets are available through various platforms, with prices varying by venue and seating selection.
Bill Murray Has a Long History with Music
During his SNL days, Murray made several musical appearances on the show thanks to characters such as Nick the Lounge Singer. In a world where everyone has a different view on what does and does not count as a good song and singer, Murray’s less-than-serious performances such as the one above would not have led anyone to believe that the actor would one day be performing to a paying audience.
Even before his current tour, Murray has frequently delivered surprising musical interludes, including a number in his movie Lost in Translation, to his Netflix special, A Very Murray Christmas – in which he crooned his way through some festive classics with special guests – and an impromptu performance in Central Park. However, the more structured tour is an altogether different beast, but with only a limited number of dates available, those who do want to check out this unique experience don’t have much choice or chance to grab a ticket.
