Sadie Sink has quickly become a household name in the past few years thanks to her prolific and notable work in fan-favorite franchises such as Stranger Things and Fear Street, as well as in award-winning films like The Whale. She’s quickly become one of the more prominent up-and-comers of young Hollywood, and there’s little doubt that she will continue to appear in outstanding projects. With the final season of the hit show Stranger Things on the horizon, however, fans are left wondering what her next big project might be. The current rumor is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe could be the next blockbuster franchise involving Sink, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.
Who Would Sadie Sink be in the MCU?
Allegedly, Sadie Sink may be the next actress to don the mantle of Jean Grey, a telepath and telekinetic mutant who is a powerful member of the X-Men. Grey has previously been played by fellow high-profile actresses Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner in separate live-action iterations of the X-Men. Janssen was the first actress to play the character, first appearing as Grey in the 2000 live-action movie X-Men and reprising the role in the subsequent sequels. Turner, for her turn as Jean Grey, played a younger version of the character in the prequel series, debuting in X-Men: Apocalypse and returning as a main character and the focus of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. So, if the rumors turn out to be true and Sadie Sink is slated to play Jean Grey, she’s in good company.

MCU Boss Addresses Chances of an Animated Theatrical Movie
Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum isn’t ruling out an animated feature film but feels they must find the right story for a two-hour movie.
The last two glimpses of the X-Men as part of the MCU were in the mid-credits scene of The Marvels, where Monica Rambeau wakes up in an alternate universe where her mom, Maria, is a member and, of course, in the latest Deadpool movie, where he teams up with Wolverine. These last two appearances of X-Men characters from the original series, with High Jackman returning as his version of Wolverine and Kelsey Grammer reprising his version of Beast, further connect the current Marvel Cinematic Universe to the Sony universe from which these versions of the characters originate. This leaves audiences with the question of what version of X-Men is going to be part of the MCU and where Jean Grey fits into it.
With the current casting rumors, it would appear that whatever version of the X-Men will appear in the MCU will be a new team, one of Marvel Studios’ own making, and one that is mostly separate from the versions of the team audiences have already seen.
The Casting Rumor Controversy
The internet has been fairly divided over this possible casting so far, with some feeling that Sink is too young for the part. Besides the fact that she’ll likely be in her mid-twenties by the time filming starts, it would seem that whether she’s too young for the part depends on the version of the X-Men that Marvel Studios plans to bring into the MCU and the storylines they want to produce.

This Deadpool & Wolverine Fan Theory May Confirm the X-Men’s Absence from the MCU
A major fan theory from Deadpool & Wolverine confirms the X-Men’s absence from the MCU, and it actually makes sense.
As previously mentioned, Sophie Turner played Jean Grey as a student at the Xavier Institute in her time portraying the character – and, although her version of the character was part of the prequel series and took place during the 80s and early 90s, Sink’s version of the character may be around the same age but in modern day. With the expanding multiverse of the MCU, there are almost endless possibilities and comic-based universes to explore, which means that Sink could be playing any one of countless versions of Jean Grey.
Currently, there’s no confirmation of what version of the X-Men will be next seen on the big screen or what storylines they might want to explore with this new version of the team. There has also yet to be a confirmed, or even rumored, director for the unnamed X-Men project, which means that any movie focused on the X-Men team will likely be at least a few years away.
When Will Audiences See the New Jean Grey?
It’s said that the latest iteration of the iconic X-Men team will be officially joining the MCU in their very own movie after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, the Avengers movie slated for release in May 2027. So, needless to say, fans have a while to wait before they can see the X-Men return to the silver screen for their own adventures.
