2024 was a pretty good year for movies, with such releases as Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Despicable Me 4 generating big box office dollars. That being said, 2025 promises to be a return to form, so to speak, with a lot of highly-anticipated blockbusters across a wide variety of genres expected to be a hit with moviegoers. With so many new releases next year, though, the question is: which one are people looking forward to seeing the most? Luckily, we have an answer.
Fandango’s Most Anticipated Movie Survey asked more than 9,000 people the one film they were most hyped about seeing in 2025, and the results might surprise you. The online ticket giant also managed to break things down by genre and performances, digging even deeper into the psyche of film fans, who – according to the survey – are expected to turn out in droves next year to see their favorite movies on the big screen. Of the number questioned, 89% of people said they were planning on watching even more theatrical releases in 2025, with 53% commenting that they’ll see at least six films.

Audiences are in for a real treat at the cinema in 2025, as some of Hollywood’s most beloved franchises are set to release thrilling sequels.
That spells good news for some of the major studios, who have struggled as of late thanks to a number of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023 which brought the industry to a screeching halt. As such, 2025 is looking to be a big year as Hollywood aims to play catch up, and here’s the official list of the movies people are the most excited about, according to Fandango.
- Captain America: Brave New World
- Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
- Jurassic World Rebirth
- From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps
- Avatar: Fire and Ash
- Wicked Part 2
- The Accountant 2
- Superman
- 28 Years Later
Fandango’s Survey Breaks Things Down Even Further
The Accountant 2? Really? That one kind of surprised us. What also managed to come as somewhat of a surprise is just who moviegoers are excited about seeing next year at their local cinema. Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth made the list, as did Nicholas Hoult in Superman – no big shock there. Pedro Pascal (Fantastic Four: First Steps) is also on everyone’s radar, as is Ana de Armas (From The World of John Wick: Ballerina). The one we didn’t expect to see was Brad Pitt, who will play a retired Formula One racer that mentors a young rookie in Joseph Kosinski’s F1, which hits theaters on June 27.
In terms of genres, Captain America: Brave New World also topped the list in the action/adventure category, and Wicked Part Two was at the top of the heap of family movies folks are most looking forward to seeing. When it comes to horror, 28 Years Later was front and center, with others such as Wolf Man, The Conjuring: Last Rites, M3GAN 2.0, and The Black Phone 2 also in the Top 5.
Of course, surveys like this are all subjective, so just because Captain America: Brave New World is the one Fandango fans picked as their number one most anticipated movie of 2025, it doesn’t mean you’ll feel the same way. With next year heavy on sequels, it’ll be interesting to see which original films break free to become a success. Either way, it’s clear that as we head into the latter half of the decade, there will be plenty of movies for everyone to enjoy.
