The second season of Netflix’s live-action remake of the iconic anime series One Piece has arrived, and the reviews have been rapturous. The show does a great job of translating the tone and scope of the original anime and manga, which is impressive, because the One Piece anime has over a thousand episodes (and counting) and hundreds of characters. A huge number of them are present and accounted for, starting with the original Straw Hat Pirates and the rest of the returning cast.
Iñaki Godoy Returns as Monkey D. Luffy
Our lead character, Monkey D. Luffy, is a seafaring adventurer who hopes to one day become King of the Pirates. And he has enough confidence, charisma, and power to actually make it happen.
In the first season, Luffy set his sights on entering the Grand Line, the most dangerous sea on the planet. Somewhere in the Grand Line, the legendary treasure known as the One Piece lies hidden. In season 2, he takes important steps towards achieving his dreams.
Iñaki Godoy is very charming as a character who is the most animated of animated characters. He brings so much energy to the role that you’ll almost forget it’s a live-action adaptation.
Mackenyu Returns as Roronoa Zoro
Zoro is the first person to join Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirate crew, serving mainly as the muscle. He’s an expert swordsman who dreams of being the greatest in the world.
Taciturn and serious, Zoro’s personality bounces nicely off Monkey D. Luffy’s, who may be the most enthusiastic person to ever breathe. Mackenyu not only nails Zoro’s deadpan delivery but also brings athleticism and grace to the show’s many fight scenes.
Emily Rudd Returns as Nami
Nami serves as navigator for the Straw Hat Pirates. Like Zoro, Nami is more hard-boiled and world-weary than Luffy, and at one point in season 1, she betrayed the Straw Hat Pirates to help save her hometown. But eventually she was won over by Luffy’s boundless optimism and now travels with him on her way to achieving her dream of making a map of the entire world. Emily Rudd plays her with wit and gravity.
Jacob Romero Gibson Returns as Usopp
Usopp is a teller of tall tales given to exaggerating his own achievements, but at bottom, he’s a decent guy who will do the right thing even if it scares him. It just might take him a minute.
Unlike the other Straw Hat Pirates, Usopp doesn’t join the crew with a specific role, but finds that he has a knack for maintaining their ship, the Going Merry. He also likes to tinker with things and make weapons. Jacob Romero Gibson is great at providing comic relief.
Taz Skylar Returns as Sanji
Sanji is a smooth-talking cook who joins the Straw Hat Pirates as a chef. He’s fond of women, but butts heads a lot with Zoro. Taz Skylar eagerly tackles all the new material season 2 gives him.
Returning Supporting Cast Members in ‘One Piece’ Season 2
The cast of One Piece was already big in season 1. Several important supporting players return for season 2:
- Vincent Regan as Monkey D. Garp, a high-ranking official in the Marines and Luffy’s grandfather.
- Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown, a pirate with a clown nose (just don’t say that to his face) and a grudge against Luffy.
- Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, another pirate who has a grudge against Luffy. He tends to collect those.
- Morgan Davies as Koby, Luffy’s friend who has joined the Marines.
- Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Koby’s fellow Marine, who is a lot less annoying now that he can’t coast off his dad’s success.
- Steven John Ward as Dracule Mihawk, a powerful swordsman whom Zoro dreams of one day besting in combat.

Charithra Chandran as Nefertari Vivi / Miss Wednesday
Our heroes meet Vivi as Miss Wednesday, a member of a vast criminal organization called Baroque Works. But really, she’s a princess from the kingdom of Alabasta who’s gone undercover with Baroque Works to try and figure out what they’re doing in her home country. Her story drives a lot of the narrative in season 2, so it’s a good thing that Charithra Chandran is very sympathetic in the role. It’s easy to see why Luffy and co want to help her.
Mikaela Hoover as the voice of Tony Tony Chopper
Tony Tony Chopper is a reindeer who ate a devil fruit, which, in this world, gives people powers, turning him into a talking teddy bear-like creature. He has a very sad backstory that led him to want to be a doctor.
Tony Tony Chopper was always going to be a challenge for the show to pull off, but the CGI artists and voice actor Mikaela Hoover convince us that he’s right there with the rest of the crew.
Callum Kerr as Smoker
Smoker is a high-ranking Marine who has a run-in with Luffy near the beginning of season 2. Smoker joined the Navy to fight pirates, which puts him at odds with the Straw Hats.
Smoker has the ability to turn into smoke, courtesy of a Devil Fruit. Callum Kerr plays him as a straightforward military tough guy with a strong, perhaps rigid sense of justice.
Julia Rehwald as Tashigi
Tashigi is Smoker’s lieutenant, an expert sword-fighter who has an abiding love for rare swords. She’s earnest and dedicated, but still green enough that she’s not always sure of herself. Julia Rehwald brings an endearing likability to the part.
Lera Abova as Nico Robin / Miss All Sunday
Miss All Sunday is a high-level Baroque Works agent whom we only see a few times in season 2, but who will have a much bigger role going forward. Lera Abova brings a vampy confidence to the role that makes Miss All Sunday a very intimidating and fun antagonist.
New Supporting Cast Members in ‘One Piece’ Season 2
One Piece introduces a ton of new supporting players in season 2, some of whom will go on to have huge roles down the line and some of whom just show up for a single episode.
- Joe Manganiello as Crocodile / Mr. 0, the head of Baroque Works. He’ll be hugely important in season 3, but in season 2 we mostly just get glimpses of him.
- Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, the king of Alabasta and Vivi’s father.
- James Hiroyuki Liao as Ipponmatsu, a sword salesman in Loguetown.
- Rigo Sanchez as Dragon, a powerful revolutionary who helps out Luffy for reasons unknown. He’ll be very important later.
- Clive Russell as Crocus, a crotchety lighthouse keeper.
- Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, a Baroque Works agent who’s partnered with Vivi.
- Yonda Thomas as Igaram, a member of the Alabasta royal guard, going undercover with Vivi as a Baroque Works agent.
- Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, a Baroque Works agent who can create explosions by…doing something gross.
- Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Mr. 5’s partner, who can manipulate her body weight at will.
- Brendan Murray and Werner Coetser as Brogy and Dorry, a pair of giants who live and fight on Little Garden
- Werner Coetser as Dorry, a captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates
- David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, a megalomaniacal Baroque Works agent who can manipulate wax. He considers himself an artist.
- Sophia Anne Caruso as Miss Goldenweek, Mr. 3’s partner. She can use paint to change people’s emotions.
- Rob Colletti as Wapol, the tyrannical king of Drum Island.
- Mark Penwill and Anton Jeftha as Chess and K.M., Wapol’s right-hand men.
- Ty Keogh as Dalton, a former Drum Kingdom royal guardsman very unhappy with how Wapol runs things.
- Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, a competent but acerbic doctor living on Drum Island.
- Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiruluk, a quack doctor living on Drum Island. He’s not on the show long, but gives a terrific performance.
- Michael Dorman as Gold Roger, the original king of the pirates, whom we see in flashback.
- Martial T. Batchamen as Brook, a violinist who will have a bigger role later in the story.
- Alan Foulis as Mr. 11, a Frontier Agent for Baroque Works.
- Sanchia Davids as Miss Thursday, a Baroque Works agent and Mr. 11’s partner. We don’t ever actually see Miss Thursday in the anime. In the live-action show, it’s revealed that she has a baseball gimmick.
- Nahum Hughes as Bartolomeo, a fan of Luffy’s who actually doesn’t show up at this point in the anime. The show brought him in early.
- Candice van Litsenborgh as Negikuma Maria, a Drum Island villager
LEGO Reveals New Sets Based On Hit Netflix Pirate Series – And They Definitely Have More Than One Piece
Get ready to set sail with your favorite pirate crew on the blocky seas.
During a flashback in the episode “Nami Deerest,” we drop in on a meeting of the World Government, an important organization that doesn’t have a big role in season 2, but will later in the show. We see a lot of characters gathered here:
- Peter Butler as Thalassa Lucas, king of the Ilisia Kingdom
- Mark Elderkin as Ham Burger, king of the Ballywood Kingdom
- Lauren Hawker-Jehring as Morollon, queen of the Tajine Kingdom
- Alex Mai as Ramen, as king of the Kano Country
- Jack Reeder as Furrari, king of the Nagagutsu Kingdom
- Anton Revell as Tacos, king of the Shishano Kingdom
- Rob van Vuuren as Seki, king of the Lulusia Kingdom
- Chris Long as Tea IV, king of the Eigis Kingdom
- Andy Mullins as Elizabello II, the king of the Prodence Kingdom
- Nazeeh Tarsha as Beer VI, king of the Roshwan Kingdom
To include all of these characters, the lot of them dressed in their ostentatious outfits from the anime, shows how far the Netflix show will go to stay true to the source material.
