AS Roma defender Evan Ndicka is shaping up to be one of the most sought-after defenders in the upcoming summer transfer market.
The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international has attracted interest from several major European clubs after establishing himself as one of the defensive pillars of the Italian side.
His performances in Serie A and in European competitions have not gone unnoticed, and his name has already appeared on the agendas of several giants, including FC Barcelona.
€50 million for Ndicka
Now, according to reports from Italy (h/t Fichajes), Roma have no intention of letting one of their most important players leave easily. As such, the Italian capital club have set Ndicka’s price at around €50 million.
This is a significant figure that complicates any attempt by Barcelona to finalise his signing. After all, the club’s financial situation forces the Blaugrana to carefully evaluate any major investment.
The Catalans are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of next season and are particularly interested in signing a left-footed centre-back. And Ndicka possesses several of the qualities valued by Barça’s sporting department.
He is a powerful defender, comfortable in building play from the back and experienced at the highest level. In addition, he is currently in the prime years of his football career, making him a player capable of delivering immediate performances.
Manchester United also keen
In addition to his €50 million price tag, what could complicate matters further for Barcelona is the interest from Manchester United in Ndicka.
The Premier League giants are also looking to reinforce their defence and see the Ivorian as an attractive opportunity to improve the squad.
Unlike Barcelona, Manchester United do not appear to be deterred by the price demanded by Roma. So, it remains to be seen who comes out on top in this transfer battle.
