‘The Lowdown’ Season 2 Casts Tommy Lee Jones

Tommy Lee Jones is finally making his comeback on television with his first small screen role in 37 years. Starring Ethan Hawke, his critically acclaimed neo-noir crime series that debuted last year was renewed for a second season back in January. FX has now announced that the Oscar-winning actor will join the unconventional mystery series, known for featuring a star-studded rotation of guest stars.

FX has announced that Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men) has joined the cast of The Lowdown Season 2, which is set to begin production this spring in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is unclear what kind of role he may play, but Jones joins Betty Gilpin (American Primeval) as the show’s newest cast members in the upcoming batch of episodes. The series, which follows Hawke as a citizen journalist from Tulsa who investigates local corruption, hails from series creator Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs), who also executive produces alongside Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Duffy Boudreau and Scott Teems.

The first season of The Lowdown featured Hawke alongside Keith David, as well as an impressive cast of guest stars including Kyle MacLachlan, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Kaniehtiio Horn, Tracy Letts, Peter Dinklage and the late Graham Greene. Read the show’s official synopsis:

FX’s The Lowdown follows the gritty exploits of citizen journalist Lee Raybon (Hawke), a self-proclaimed Tulsa “truthstorian” whose obsession with the truth is always getting him into trouble. While Lee’s no idealist, he’s fiercely committed to exposing corruption and unearthing the city’s hidden rot, even when it puts him at risk.
