Lewis Hall relishing Lamine Yamal possibility

Lewis Hall is set to face Lamine Yamal.

Tuesday night sees Newcastle United up against Barcelona, with a key battle set to take place on that side of the pitch.

Lewis Hall expected to start, with up against him the talented teenage winger who already has 19 goals this season (in all competitions).

The lifelong Newcastle United fan asked about Lamine Yamal at today’s pre-match press conference: “It goes without saying that he is a special talent. I have seen him play in enough Champions League games, I know what he’s about. So for me, if I was to be selected, I would be really looking forward to it. I want to test myself against the best players in the world, so there is no better opportunity to do so than the game tomorrow. I know the moments that he can produce, I know what he is like as a player, but I think they have got so many different threats in their team, so to single one individual out, as good a player as he is, would be not a smart thing to do.”

A huge challenge but also a huge opportunity for United.

As for Lewis Hall, he wasn’t even born the last time Newcastle United reached the last 16 of the Champions League in 2003.

Now the possibility of bettering that, Lewis Hall declaring: “We are all really excited and we’re looking forward to hopefully putting a good performance in. We know the importance of tomorrow as a fixture in general. There’s still enough games to go in the league that we can turn it around but we just need to put that to the side for now and focus on tomorrow’s game, as that’s the most important thing right now. It’s going to be really difficult going to their place in a week or so, but for now there’s such an important game tomorrow that we need to really just focus on what we can do tomorrow. When we do go there, we can hopefully take a positive result there. That’s what we need to do.”

Lewis Hall is of course one of Newcastle’s very best players, especially his ability when going forward.

United will need the likes of him at their best if they are to progress.

Lewis Hall asked if this will be one of the biggest matches of his career so far: “I would say it is definitely up there. I have played a lot of games now that have been really important for my development as a player, but when you get to this end in the competition, the business end of the competition, Round of 16 in the Champions League over two legs, I wouldn’t say that I’ve played in any bigger games than that. So tomorrow’s going to be a big one for me, but I’m looking forward to it. I like to take everything in my stride. I think that’s an important thing for a young player to do. Anyone can get caught up in the moment, it can become a bit overwhelming so I think it’s important that you just take everything as it goes along, take it game by game, and just think about how you can improve what you’ve done and what you can do for the next game. That’s my mentality.”

Lewis Hall is for sure the best English left-back in the country.

The United star asked about the possibility of going to this summer’s World Cup with England: “It is definitely a motivating factor. I like to take every game by game; I’m still young, I’m still learning about how I can improve, how I can influence the team in better ways and things like that. It’s a big opportunity tomorrow – Champions League, World Cup, they’re obviously massive competitions. But I don’t really think about that too much. I just think about what I can do to help the team in the next game and how we can do our best to win.”
