There’s a certain time in life when the world is in front of you, every dream seems achievable, and every emotion is an even bigger deal than it might be otherwise. This relatable experience isn’t always captured properly on a TV series. It’s fun to watch wild parties, friendships undone by harsh gossip, and relationship problems. But what about something more haunting, more interesting, and more unforgettable? There’s a steamy thriller that does it all differently, and four years since Season 1 premiered, it’s even more intriguing than it was before.
A clever adaptation of a novel by Carola Lovering arrived on Hulu in 2022. It’s an erotic thriller that has plenty of sex scenes, characters who are intensely connected, and some flawless twists. Some TV shows in this genre have no likable characters to follow along with, and you’re just watching for the intimate moments. This one has it all. If you put on Tell Me Lies, you won’t be able to stop watching.
‘Tell Me Lies’ Is a Great Steamy Weekend Binge and It Gets Better Over Time
Yes, let’s get it out of the way: there is a lot of sex in Tell Me Lies. The story follows Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten), who falls for Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White at Baird College). They’re attracted to each other ASAP, and well, we know how this goes. The scenes between these characters are pretty intense, and they’re definitely attention-grabbing. Bree (Catherine Missal) and her boyfriend-turned-fiance Evan (Branden Cook) have some hot scenes as well, and Pippa (Sonia Mena) and Wrigley’s (Spencer House) connection is also explored.
However, Tell Me Lies gets better with every season. This isn’t a lackluster, thin show that relies on sex scenes to get people interested. Every episode depicts several different layers of desire and intimacy, asking questions about important topics like consent and what people actually want from relationships.
In Season 1, Lucy and Stephen get caught up in a fascinating love triangle with a dark undertone. In Season 2, they still can’t stay away from each other, and Bree has a hot (yet problematic) affair of her own. Then, in Season 3, which premiered on Hulu in January 2026, the characters are complete messes, and you wonder if anyone is ever going to achieve some sense of peace. Since Season 1 has 10 episodes and Seasons 2 and 3 have eight, you can watch it quickly, spending your whole weekend wondering what’s going to happen next and how these characters can possibly get into even more intricate and complicated circumstances.
There’s one thing that sets this show apart, though: Stephen is a horrible person (to put it mildly), a master manipulator, and more along the lines of Joe Goldberg than Ryan Atwood/Brandon Walsh/Seth Cohen (insert the best TV boyfriends here). He may not be a serial killer, but he’s hiding a terrible secret in Season 1, and the way that he plays with people’s emotions should be studied in a college class. Thankfully, unlike the Hulu shows canceled before they should have been, Tell Me Lies continued for three impressive seasons that are anything but disappointing.
‘Tell Me Lies’ Ended At the Perfect Time
Not long before fans tuned into Tell Me Lies Season 3 finale, they found out that it would be the series finale. Showrunner and creator Meaghan Oppenheimer posted on her Instagram account and wrote, “This was always the ending my writing team and I had in mind” and “I am very grateful that we are able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending – a privilege very few shows get.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in February 2026, Oppenheimer shared:
“My worst fear was having an ending that didn’t feel like an ending, that left too much out in the open. That would be a betrayal of the fans.”
Given the popularity of Tell Me Lies, it would have made sense if it kept going for at least one more season. But it works as a solid, succinct, dark, and riveting three-season series. As Oppenheimer noted in her THR interview, Season 2 concludes with a cliffhanger. That’s a lot of fun to watch, and of course, it makes you want to keep going. However, the series finale ties up the main storylines while maintaining the show’s message that life is messy and tough and not always what you expect. The homework, exams, and college parties may end, but we keep experiencing the highs and lows of daily life, right?
So, if you’re tired of becoming obsessed with a TV series only to be disappointed by a terrible final season, check out Tell Me Lies. Every season is flawless, and each season tells an even deeper story about Lucy’s attraction to Stephen and her hopes of maintaining her sense of self. Also, yes, it’s very steamy.
