The honors keep rolling in for Chelsea and U.S. women’s national team star Alyssa Thompson.
Thompson was named the Women’s Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards’ 2026 ceremony on Thursday evening. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a stellar start to life in England, being a productive part of Sonia Bompastor’s squad.
After moving from Angel City FC last summer, Thompson has quickly become a consistent contributor for the Lady Blues. She’s made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and adding two assists.
Thompson has netted four goals in 2026, scoring twice in January and February respectively.
In addition to becoming one of Chelsea’s leading attacking threats, Thompson has also helped Chelsea remain in every competition this season. Chelsea returns to action on March 15 against Manchester United in the Women’s League Cup Final at Ashton Gate in Bristol.
The Blues will also face off with London rivals Arsenal in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals later this spring, while also reaching the FA Cup quarterfinals against Tottenham.
Chelsea also are third in the WSL standings, sitting nine points behind league-leading Manchester City. The London club has six matches remaining in league play, with two of them coming against the current top-six (Manchester United, London City Lionesses).
Thompson is currently with the USWNT in the United States for the conclusion of the annual SheBelieves Cup.
